Post holiday thoughts

I have returned from my holiday feeling really good and enjoying feeling like a normal person again. Four weeks ago I reached my lowest point ever and really questioned quality of life versus treatments. The past six months have been "lost" as feeling so bad. Anyway, had a discussion with my dr yesterday and he's agreed to having a break from treatment ( except for zometa) and see how I go as I have been stable for many months. I have a yearning to just feel normal again so I can at least go swimming and gardening and do things I enjoy. During my holiday I was just like my old self.....I've found her again! I will start Tykerb later but on a lower dose to manage side effects but will wait for next lot of scans. So I'm interested to know if other people have had these thoughts and experiences.

  • Good on you for taking a break!  If your doctor feels it's safe to have a break from your treatment then go for it!

I think it's important sometimes to take a deep breath and sit back and let the world go by, then when you feel better - pick yourself up and start again.

If I may, I'd like to suggest that you have a couple of pampering massages or baths and listen to some relaxation music - oh and don't forget scented candles (and if you're so inclinced - some champers!).

Treat yourself and I'm sure you'll keep feeling great.

    Good luck

  • Hi Josie,

I felt the same way recently. After 6 cycles of Taxotere, I was totally wiped out! Have now started just Herceptin (and Denosumab), and hoping I can remain stable on this for a while at least. Quality of life is really important, and I couldn't see the benefit of having to drag myself around the house, even though the chemo was shrinking the lesions on my liver.

We can only hope, can't we?

    Best wishes.....Pam
