Persistent Seroma

hi all. I'm three months post mastectomy and have had a persistent seroma during this time. Usually averaging 20 ml per day so being aspirated weekly. ( 6 hour round trip to the breast surgeon- not much fun)  I've still been doing chemo which has possibly slowed down any tissue repair. My lymphedema specialist has now put kinesiology tape all over my chest.  I'm hoping this will help. Anyone else had this problem and had success with lymph taping ?

  • Hi

I had a really persistent seroma (12 months) and my lymphoedema specialist massaged most of it it away over time. Wish I had started it earlier. Can't help much with lymph tape as she didn't use that at all but as my aspirations were usually between 400 and 600 mls each time ( the worst was a litre and a half), it may not have been effective.

Good to get rid of it for more than comfort or cosmetic reasons. I had two minor infections (internal, warm, nutrient rich fluid is Christmas for bugs!) and then a really bad one. Resulted in surgery to clean it all out (and not the slightest problem since).

Good luck - it looks wonderful - body art!

Hi Old Duck, I'm undergoing taping for lymphoedema around my wound at the moment and it's working well. Also, my seroma took a few weeks to heal, and persistence. Hoping that it all resolves itself for you. Sending you a big cuddle, Trace ??????

  • I have lymphodema of my boob and last time i saw my lymphodema physio she taped it. It felt really good whilst taped so am hoping she does it again when i see her in a few weeks. It was noticeably more comfortable didnt have that heavy boob feeling i usually get.  So you could say i have had success. ????

    Hope things improve for you
