Palbociclib plus Aromatase inhibitor clinical trial

Has anyone any information about the clinical trial for HR +ve HER -ve stage 11 and stage 111 breast cancer.
I have been offered the chance to sign up for it but there isn't much information about it.
I see my Oncologist at the end of the month, but want to know what sort of questions to ask about it.
I will be starting on an AI at the end of the year.

  • Unicorn kisses, no, they randomise you at the beginning to the treatment or control group, but I was told I will know which group I'm in.
  • Yes, it was the Pallas trial I was asking about.
I will make a note of those questions, thank you ladies.
I did look at the side effects, some of them seem very like the taxol side effects which worried me as I had a lot of them.
Worth trying though perhaps. I think I will have to get more info and go through it with my Oncologist.
At least it is not a new drug, and they do know some of the side effects.
I was under the impression that it was a random trial though and that you didn't get told if you were getting the drug or the placebo.

  • I am going on Wednesday to see about a trial called Pallas when I will receive palbociclib for two years, 21 days taking it and 7 days not, in combination with letrozole (my AI), for my early breast cancer. I have had chemo, double mastectomy and radiotherapy. Interesting questions thanks primek, will ask if it precludes me from using it if I get mets. I guess they know a bit about what to expect because it has been used in metastatic cancer with great benefit, but the side effects do worry me a bit. I'm going in on the understanding that if I don't cope with it, I will pull out but at least I will give it a try. I will be told if I'm getting the drug or the placebo.
  • Contact the people running the trial and ask them for more info. If you are going down that road deal direct; you do not want someone else with no 'skin in the game' acting as the intermediary.
If the trial is being well run and you qualify, they will be falling over themselves to get you on board. They should have very digestible information and participant liaison officers all set up. Remember, they are courting you, you are not begging them.
  • I've read a bit. I guess questions to ask are what would normal treatment be?What is the expected improvement and what risks are there. If you ever developed mets would it preclude you from receiving  palcbociclib again then? (Assuming you were not on placebo )
