Paclitaxol

Next lot of treatment starts Tuesday. I'm riddled with anxiety and really want to get off the merry go ride.
  • I did too. I had to take higher steroids and my antihistimine a full hour before treatment and was good after that. Slowly they reduced the steroids. I was always flushed for a couple of days but no breathing issues again.
  • Gerry, I too had an allergic reaction to first round of Taxol, and  thereafter had to have extra pre meds. I got through it, and you will too! Best of luck to you
  • Gerry I thought so, its really common, for the first 2 infusions they watch really closely. It snuck up on me really was frightening as my 18yo daughter was there too, scared her very much. Let us know how you manage your first week. Hugs Melinda xo
  • @melclarity it was my first, so hopefully it's all going to be ok for the next 11. x
  • Gerry was that on your first infusion of Taxol?? I had the same thing but it didnt happen til about the 5th infusion, its very scary!!! Let us know how you go. x
  • A little update. I had a reaction turned bright red, had a tight chest high blood pressure and trouble breathing. Completely scared the bejesus out of me!!! And after getting me back under control with pherngan they slowed the pace of infusion and I was ok. What was meant to take 2 hours ended up being 6 1/2 hrs. So great full for my team.
  • Gerry, I agree the anxiety is so hard, I do think once you start you'll be closer to the finish, and it may not be as bad as you have thought. I found taxol different to FEC, easier in some ways but I didnt cope with any of the chemo, but I got through it :) best thing I found was, I only looked at a day...I didnt think beyond that, it kept me in the moment and helped alot. Hugs Melinda xo
  • I was also nervous when starting it but i got through it ok. I rested alot and my time went quicker than expected. Anything to do with what your going through is nerve racking but you can do this keep strong and best wishes xo
  • Not sure what you were on before but honestly the paclitaxol will seem so much easier at first. You get tired towards the end but it is doable. You can get through this. You are stronger than you think. Kath x
