Paclitaxel/Hercepton/Perjeta

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all travelling along well. I have now finished 3 months of AC and start a new regime for the following 3 months - for some reason, I am more anxious about this next round than I was the very first time. Is there anyone else here who has gone through the above cocktail?

Thanks in advance X

  • Good idea - it wasn't an option when I was doing it but it would be a lot quicker and after 6 months of chemo, you don't need any more day oncology than necessary, wonderful as they are.
  • I think I will ask about the injections, I think that would be way easier than an infusion :)

  • I had those 3. I had some peripheral neuropathy after 6 taxols so they dropped the dose to 80% and i got through all 12. Worst side effect was the fatigue but other than that I cant remember any other problems. I changed to herceptin injections as I  got my port out with surgery and this is a quick 10min appt, only side effect is I get a 10cm welt at the injection site for 2 days (apparently that's not meant to happen I'm just special lol).
    Best wishes x
  • I've done the Paclitaxel (commonly known as Taxol) and Herceptin but not Perjeta. As I had 9 months of Herceptin on its own, I can say with some confidence that I had no side effects from that at all, that I was aware of.

Taxol I didn't like - most people find it much easier than A/C but I didn't have any immediate problems with A/C other than the obvious ones (like losing my hair!). Taxol on the other hand was annoying. However the only long term side effect was peripheral neuropathy. This is often temporary and can range from tingling, or pins and needles sensations in hands and feet, to a funny combination of both significant loss of feeling and pain. Extreme outcomes are not so common, many people find that symptoms reverse once they finish Taxol but take it seriously if you experience any such symptoms.  Cold mitten/glove treatment for hands and feet may help (discuss with your oncologist), I found Vitamin B helped a bit, too. Other Taxol side effects can include runny or occasionally bloody noses, watery eyes, loss of taste. Irritating, not disastrous and end pretty fast once your 12 weeks are up. Best wishes.
