Osteoporosis !!!!

Well just had my surgeon call with results of my bone density, we wanted to know this before starting on Arimadex, omg just something else, it shows significant osteoporosis in my spine haha , so no Arimadex ( I was a little concerned about taking them anyways) so next step beginning Tamoxifen instead. Cannot believe my luck since after 2 beautiful children since 1990 3 open heart surgeries , 3 pacemakers, heart failure after chemotherapy, 2 breast cancer diagnosis,  lymphodema from pacemaker wires blocking veins and now osteoporosis, well I am certainly being tested, however I stay positive all the time and have a great family. WOW it is great to be ALIVE I must say. Thanks for listening good to get it off the chest hey.. Some days you just want to be  so called normal hey?

  • Hi Sheree

It’s Eliisa from BCNA’s Policy team. Thank you for sharing your story with the network - you certainly have been through a lot!

I wanted to mention BCNA’s fact sheet on Bone Health. The fact sheet has information and tips that may be helpful for women who are on breast cancer treatment and may be at risk of developing or have osteoporosis.

You can also order this resource, along with all of our other booklets and fact sheets for free on our website by clicking the following link: https://www.bcna.org.au/understanding-breast-cancer/resources/order-bcna-information-resources/

You may also like to visit BCNA’s Bone Health page on our website -  link here.

Hope this is helpful, but if you have any queries, please feel free to contact us at BCNA.

    Wishing you well for 2016.

  • Hi Sheree,

Like you I've been bodgey for years! I currently take 41 pills a day (not bc related) to be able to function. If we wrote a book on our health issues I'm sure no one would believe it! But the fact is, it is good to be alive. Every one has good days and bad days but seriously what choice do we have but to keep on keeping on? Let's face it, it's hard enough without being miserable as well.

Your post made me smile as I had a bad day New Year's Eve and had written a post having a sook and ended up deleting it but it's nice to know I'm not the only one. I spent the day in hospital having an infusion, it is a form of chemo so makes me sick, they had to get the ultrasound to find a vein for the iv blah, balh, blah. Sometimes you just want it all to stop.

On a side note, a little laugh for you. Today I accidentally knocked my pill box off the bench and as it landed on the floor all the compartments opened. There was 6 days of pills in it. All 264 of them went flying everywhere! I couldn't believe it. Hahaha oh well. Ya gotta laugh.

Keep on keeping on. Karen xox
