Operation date set!

Do those genie bras come with an inbuilt pocket?I bought a version of one at a cheapo shop at Rouse hill town centre for $8.Trouble is I had to do a lot of "doctoring"such as sew in a pocket for my prosthesis and sew  stretch lace across the top to heighten the neckline.Not too bad though for the price.

Hi Diane, I also love the genie bras. So comfortable. My surgery went well and I came home this morning with 2 new boobs that look pretty darn good. There will be a lot of bruising still to develop, but I'm very impressed so far. I'm a bit sore, but nothing like when I had the mastectomy and tissue expanders put in, or when I had my extra surgery in Perth to take out that huge hematoma. This just feels like superficial surgical pain, and I was good straight out of the anaesthetic. I'm needing panadeine, but that's all. Love Chris xx

I got 3 more tonight on eBay for $27 plus postage! Love them. Fit snugly across the top of your chest so people can't see the hollowed out area. Looks like a top under your clothes if you wear a low neckline. I'm a size 12-14C and got large. Cheers, Diane

Goodluck for Wednesday birdgirl. I had a right mastectomy on oct 21st 2011, was diagnosed 11th oct, and my sentinal node biopsy only took 2 nodes, which were negative. I was lucky & didn't need any further treatment except 5 yrs on tamoxifen. I hope you have great results too. My surgeon used clear tape on my scar, which is about 12cm long across my right side of chest so prepare yourself beforehand that you may not have bandaging. It is confronting seeing it for the first time but you will be ok. & like the other woman have said, come on here and have a cry if you feel like it. Don't spend too much money on the 'expensive' bras either cause they are a pain sometimes...I barely wear them because they dig into my arm pit too much,as Diane said. I still have fluid or swelling under my arm from surgery and am yet to buy the 'real' prosthesis as I'm still comfortable wearing the 1 they gave me in hospital which I put in my post surgery bra, but I think I'm going to get myself some of the bras Diane has mentioned. I hope your surgery goes as well as it can. My 8 yr old daughter wasn't interested in checking out my scar for a few wks, but my 3 & 6 yr old boys were happy to look on day 1! Know you are not alone, & we will all be thinking of you on wed. Sam xo

All the advice above is so true and reading it is even giving me some comfort knowing someone else out there is going though the same thing as me! Anyway my little bit of advice for you is if you have long hair maybe get it cut to a manageable length, because it is so hard to do it or put it up when you can't lift your arm above your head, so washing it is really hard too. Either that or assign one of your friends or family the job of helping you with your hair. I know it's not about how you look but when you go through something like this, it helps if you can get up in the morning and fix your hair & make yourself feel a little better.
