Goodluck for Wednesday birdgirl. I had a right mastectomy on oct 21st 2011, was diagnosed 11th oct, and my sentinal node biopsy only took 2 nodes, which were negative. I was lucky & didn't need any further treatment except 5 yrs on tamoxifen. I hope you have great results too. My surgeon used clear tape on my scar, which is about 12cm long across my right side of chest so prepare yourself beforehand that you may not have bandaging. It is confronting seeing it for the first time but you will be ok. & like the other woman have said, come on here and have a cry if you feel like it. Don't spend too much money on the 'expensive' bras either cause they are a pain sometimes...I barely wear them because they dig into my arm pit too much,as Diane said. I still have fluid or swelling under my arm from surgery and am yet to buy the 'real' prosthesis as I'm still comfortable wearing the 1 they gave me in hospital which I put in my post surgery bra, but I think I'm going to get myself some of the bras Diane has mentioned.
I hope your surgery goes as well as it can. My 8 yr old daughter wasn't interested in checking out my scar for a few wks, but my 3 & 6 yr old boys were happy to look on day 1! Know you are not alone, & we will all be thinking of you on wed.
Sam xo
