Onco Dx test

I was wondering has anyone had a oncotype dx testing done? How did they find it ,was it useful in decision making?
  • As far as I understand, an oncotype dx test is only carried out if there is no node involvement - to ascertain whether chemo is going to be useful or not. If the nodes are involved, then the higher chance of malignancy beyond the original tumour leans to chemo treatment. I didn't have the test either but I had one malignant node.
  • Her2 cancers aren't suitable for oncotype dx testing only hormone + @Payne as they already know they need chemo and targeted therapy to stop it in its tracks.
  • Thanks for that @Irb_03  and @Milly21.  I was node positive at biopsy followed by axillary clearance (2/17 positive).  The plan was already for chemo and radio. plus herceptin as was Her2 positive but E and P negative. Tumour size was only 12mm though.  You are so right @Milly21 about no guarantees about clear answers. Sue
  • @Payne, I don't understand all the ins and outs, but I think it it's a test that gives an indication of the likely benefit you'd get from chemo. Some of us know we'll need chemo, whether based on tumour size, type, ki67, lymph node involvement, or a combination of all. When it's a little more equivocal, oncodx, or similar tests can be used as a decision aid.
@Milly21, I didn't have it done, as I was node positive at diagnosis, so started with chemo first.  Over the years my observation would be that the people who gained the most fro  having the test were those whose pathology wasn't clear cut on needing or not needing chemo, and the test gave a clear answer. Unfortunately,  like many things, there's no guarantee you'll get that clear answer.

  • What is oncotype dx testing. What are they trying to diagnose?  My Ki67 was very high (extremely high), I didn't have that done.  Should I have requested it? Had chemo and radio following lumpectomy. My margins were clear but chest wall was < .05mm.
  • I know a number of ladies have done this and it helped...but sometimes it confuses when borderline. I think it could be helpful if ki67 (rate of growth) is indeterminate.
