Now that I have hair, on my head I scratch it in wonder

Hi Pink Darlings - Now I have hair on my head I scratch it in wonder.  I just answered a blog re 'frustrated with friends' and it really started me thinking.  As you all are very much aware, this illness tends to create a lot of personal thought provacation (big words!) but it's true - I mean I have really taken a step back and started to work out the shite from the Shino - and there is an awful lot of the former!  Now we all have had experience with the fiends (sorry friends) and family and some of their behaviour - and as you know some of the behaviour and reactions are of the most 'alien' kind!  In our situation, we sort out the wheat from the chaff pretty darn quick! But, that aside - I am here - chemo over, radiotherapy over, Herceptin ongoing.....I want to go for a trip to Tassie - and here's the dilema, I am feeling like (a) can't be bothered (b) every place I lived there, went to school and worked there - has all been pulled down and demolished! This I know because I 'Googled' it all - kind of like taking a peek inside the wrapper of a present at Christmas - I spoilt my own fun!  As for the former 'The can't be bothered' factor'.......I think that is just how I feel at the moment, you know, all the travel with the medical treatments bla bla bla - I just don't know if I am up for it (the trip to Tassie)......just yet...........so I will leave it on the back burner, maybe by February as I will be turning the big Six-Oh! I might be so despondent witht the lack of birthday phone calls, we just might jump in the car and head for the ferry.........why not!  Right now I am peeved with my kids for one reason and another (mainly the lack of interest regarding me on their part) and family (except for one absolutely gorgeous old Aunt and I love her sooooo much!) I am extremely grateful to my husband as he is the 'quiet' hero, he has stood by me through this thick and thin....Bless his cotton socks!  In the meantime I have one of my grand children down here from QLD, (her Mummy said she's too hard to handle) turns out the kids fine (what do you expect of a 14 year old) any way the upside is that we have forged a wonderful relationship the past three weeks - and I will be bawling my eyes out when we take her to Tullamarine on Wednesday.....I still wait for my kids to ring, and as my eldest pointedly reminded me a couple of months ago  "Your dialing digits are can be utilised too Mum" - Gee, thanks I thought, I as SO sick of being the one to ring up all the time and she tells me that!.....so here I am with very short but rather soft and furry tabby-cat hair, scratching my head in wonder..............Pity I hate flying, I have never been overseas! Right now it looks SO attractive!!!!!!!! x x x

  • Dear Tonya - I guess you must think I am a 'sick little puppy' with some of the crazy things I come up with - I must admit I was kind of a little concerned that I hadn't 'crossed a line' - my sense of humour is rather wicked, and I am onlly trying to be 'funny' but I have to realise that I don't want to 'offend'.............I was a bit tentative about the 'sexy' jokes but my willingness to come across as the 'class clown' sometimes tends to take over!  Please take it in the way it was meant to be 'funny, funny, funny!' (I crack myself up......) unfortunately it doesn't always come across too well.  You have been such a wonderful support over the past few months, not just to me....but to others, I see it on the blogs - I always look for your comments, because you always have such peals of wisdom....and I mean that sincerely you are a consistant mountain of support to all the ladies on this wonderful, wonderful website.  Just remember, we are here for YOU too.  And all the best with the fur balls.......did I tell you about my late Mother's persian cat we inherited?, (We will leave that for another day!) LOL! lots of Love Josie x x x

  • They are all very creative ideas Josie, thanks.(or should I say, sexual ideas)Don't think I could subject them to all that -maybe hit them for  rent money.O and did I mention that their persian cat that moults everywhere and coughs up fur balls will come too! You see here's the thing-we stayed with them for 3wks until our new house was ready and now it's payback! I have to say we all got on well.Anyway, this might not happen for sometime yet. love your sick sense of humour Josie.

  • Oh Leonie, lucky you! Dragon boat sounds fun (mmmmmmm, me thinks I would like some very serious fun!)  - Have a good time x x x Josie

  • Oh Tonya - who'd you upset? move in with you for six months?! As if that will work...........so what are you going to do? Can't they 'rent somewhere' Have you thought of telling them you have 'joined a swingers club and every second weekend it's at your house', maybe tell them 'you have suddenly discovered the meaning of life since you had cancer, and now you want to feel 'free' so in order to achieve this you and hubby walk around naked ALL day!' - and the real clincher to 'gross them out' say that you and your husband are 're-discovering your love life - frequently - in the kitchen, bathroom - or maybe the lounge floor - when ever the urge takes you! Or tell them they will have to pay you $500 per week rent, and this does NOT include washing in your machine (they have to go to the laundromat!) - oh, it dosen't include food either- they have to eat out........ I mean, Gee mate you have seriously been through SO MUCH! I often wonder about kids, my late Mother said they were a 'mixed blessing' ................ Of course now I 'get it'.  Oh yes, Tonya, by the way, even 'adoring husbands' get fed up occassionally - what did yours say about the 'moving in thing?' Good luck my friend, am thinking of you x x x  Josie

  • Dear Leonie, you know what - it's hardly crossed my mind to go back to work..............with all the stuff we have been through - why 'willingly' put ourselves through more.  I had a temp casual good job just before Christmas - I walked into work and had just found out that day that (a) I had received a small gift (very small) from my late Mother's estate - oh yes! and the biggie (b) I had cancer.  I sat down at my desk - my mobile went off, it was my estranged son (who'd lived with his father) texting abuse at me.  I felt frozen to the spot and my mind went blank, someone rang me and told me I was 'supposed to be somewhere else' (it was immunisation day at one of the schools and I was supposed to be there doing the paper work) it occured to me there and then that I was in no position to be able to think straight, let alone carry out admin duties either at my work or on the moon.............I did the most sensible thing - I picked up the phone and rang my boss and told her, "Sorry I just found out I have breast cancer and I am going home" ...Well it went something like that, my boss later picked me up and took me to lunch, not a word mentioned about that 'cancer' thing......I told her I had no idea if and when I could return to work.  She didn't have a lot of choice and as I was a 'casual' - they could dump me any time they wanted.  Funny thing though, the job was ok, but the people? Lets say I haven't missed a thing! And even more hilarious - I've had an excuse not to go back to that treadmill of constant job hunting and only landing casual work and being so grateful for it because I am an 'older' person, Yeh, I really miss those 20 somethings condesending and patronising me at work - you know, big smile "Josie please photocopy 5000 of these" ...................me smouldering away at the photocopier until my feet hurt thinking, Yeh! I studied five years at university to be a casual admin lacky - being ordered around by a bunch of witless bimbos who never shut up, punctuating every second word with the word 'like'. Eg: "Like yeh, he was like really like cool, oh and that like dress, like wow, like I was so like amazed, like it was so like random!" I was thinking, am I on the planet X25YP with the 'Nostra-dum-ass aliens'?  Who are these people? bloody freaks - and dammit, they get paid more than me (AND bloody sick leave!) I have to scrape and bow, kow tow and kiss the feet of some 20-30 year old jerkoff and be grateful I have this CASUAL job because Opps! I am over 35! This is fun NOT!  NO Girls! I DO NOT MISS WORK!, writing this just brought it back like some kind of shell shock, that could at any moment leave me quivering and drooling in the corner - (Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh! - so glad I got that off my chest) My sister worked all through her radiotherapy (told me it kept her sane - but considering her crap marriage - little wonder) but then again she didn't have chemo etc Some people can handle going back to work, but then again you have to realise if you work in an office like I did, the office politics is enough to make you pick up your skirts and run screaming out the door - With the experiences I have had, I have been in no rush! Honestly Short answer to going back to work Leonie? DONT!  x x x hugs girl x x x

  • As you know Leonie,I went through the same dilemma with my job of 16yrs. I.ve now been "free"for about 8 weeks and don't miss it at all.I will keep in touch with friends there on a social level.Moving into our new home has been all consuming and I am so glad I left work. The final straw(there often is)was when my boss couldn't give me a week off in October to have a holiday with my daughter to Melbourne to see the Tutankarmen exibition.Gosh, life's even shorter when you've had cancer twice.I'm not saying I have retired but rather taking a long break. We have BIG travel plans to Europe etc next March so this house has to be under control before the year is out.Josie, think bigger than Tassie-shock those kids of yours and spend their inheritance!! On the subject of kids, how's this:- We sell our big home and downsize to a new single level, fences and landscaping on the go,tradies here every day,not much furniture so boxes everywhere-got the picture.Youngest daughter and her partner decide to buy a block of land to build and want to move in with us for 6mths+when they sell their townhouse.Well there goes my sewing/hobby room that I hadn't set up yet . Ain't life full of surprises.Josie, you are not alone.I ring or sms my girls cos they are trying to save their phone credit.I know they love me but sometimes you get abit sick of being good ol mum, she's there if we need her.At least we have adoring husbands.

love to both of you,Tonya xx
