I understand when you say intimate relationship with drains :) no one can prepare us for it isn't it.
I've had 2 surgeries since christmas last year and multiple biopsies. I think the surgery itself is not bad because we are off under general anaesthesia. The local anaesthetic is aweful. I had to get some wires through my lumps which took 4 people for what felt like forever poking and prodding. I can say it was the worst pain i ever felt. I am so glad it's over.
Good luck with the chemo and rad. Mine starts next week!
