Not More Chemo

Well ladies, I finished 6 rounds of AC chemo on Tuesday hoping I would be able to stop now. But doc says due to the mets to my lungs and bones she doesnt think I should have a break but carry on with the next recommended chemo Taxabrane?? I think to keep this thing at bay. Are there many of you who have had to do the same thing? I really want to have a break, see how things pan out and grow some hair back and feel like a lady again!! They tell you these mets have a very dismal outcome eventually, so I want some time to enjoy again. I'm also concerned that so much chemo can start to take it's toll on me, when I'd rather forget about this for a while. Your thoughts ladies, would be greatly appreciated. xxx

  • I have no words of advice only words of support. It is such a hard thing to decide, break or no break.

The only thing I can offer is recently my doctors advised me that they wanted me to have my ovaries and tubes removed and I really wanted a 6 month break. Last year I had my breast surgery, chem, a kidney, removed then radiation and I was so over it all. Anyway I decided that I would follow the advice from the onc and gyno, so glad I did when my path results came back my tubes and ovaries were riddled with cysts.

So think it through, feel comfortable with what ever you decide and remember we are all here to listen to you.

  • Hi,

There is a group on here(sorry not sure how to access it but someone will know)for people with advanced breast cancer, so suggest that you may like to join them for advice too.

  • What a decision to make--its hardly ever against two options that are so clear cut.  I dont have direct experience; except when i worked in palliative care --which you arent in--there were clearly people with cancer having chemotherapy with no real benefit in terms of illness progression or life wellbeing/functioning that would have treatment and then in bed etc

Sometimes doctors dont get what your life is like outside of the treatment room so you may need to have that conversaiton with them or find a second opinion --someone who can hold the medical and your style or wellbeing as well; probably best decision to be made; and i would want to know --if possible--what treatment can do for me in real terms-ie life expectancy or functioning/wellbeing etc

    best wishes
