NOT happy Jan!

Hi all, I went to visit my breast surgeon yesterday. I saw him 2 and a half years ago and he put me on his waiting list for recon surgery at the Austin in Melbourne, a 3 hour drive for me. Finally I am at the top of his list and he tells me I have to have a BMI of 30 for him to do my surgery.

I couldnt believe it! There was no mention of this over 2 years ago when i first saw him! If he had said something them I could have lost the 15 kgs and been ready for the surgery easily in the two and a half year wait!

Ive heard others talk about this but as he hadnt said anything about my weight then I assumed (yea I know!) that he didnt require a particular weight. What a let down.

  • I can imagine how disappointed you must feel.  I agree it is not easy to lose weight - you might need to get some assistance to get you on your way.  15kg sounds a lot when you are at the "beginning of the race".  If I was you I would break it down into smaller more manageable pieces.  I always like to have a "vantage point" to work to in order to achieve things.  Try not to lose faith - if you want something bad enough - it will happen. • What a BIG let down, after waiting over 2years and a 3 hour drive! You probably feel so annoyed and frustrated. He should have told you to lose weight when you first saw him.I hope you haven't been bumped down the list too far. It's not easy to lose 15kgs - I've struggled to lose 2! You will just have to find a way to lose the weight and you shouldn't have to wait another 2 years-that would be very unfair.Perhaps the "weight thing"  should be documented in reconstruction fact sheet/info etc.- something to look into and perhaps spare others from disappointment.Take care Keryn and I hope recon is within your reach soon.
