Well done on the weight loss, one thing that I eat when loosing weight is I make a big pot of chow mein without the mince, the recipe is on the back of the continental chicken noodle soup packet, and squirt lots of lemon juice on it.  Cabbage is also a anti cancer food and the lemon juice is meant to lower our ph.

If you don't mind could you tell me Dereks surname, I have googled the Hawthorn group but his name doesn't come up.  I think my surgeon would have to write me another referal for a different ps.

Do you have a date in Nov, I know the pain and all will be horrid, but worth it in the end.  You can start to feel whole again and get on with things.

Hi, The wait for Derek was smaller I think she waited 6 months but was initailly told it would be done within 1 year, so good result. Yes I also have had a hista and oopha, and am sooo totally glad to be rid of those bits too. Id actually urge you to look at everything via the public system. I havnt had too much out of pocket at all, probably $4000 all up and Ive had a mastectomy, chemo, radio, hormonal treatment, porta cath in and out, and my hista and oopha. Sometimes it dosnt pay to let them know you have private hospital insurance. Im also 49 but both my kids are independant now.

I am in Wodonga, I am 49, married with 3 children all still living at home.  4 years is too big a wait for the small job that I need.  Did your friend have to wait long for Derek? I am not even sure if I should pursue it. It all gets too depressing after a while doesn't it.  I am having hysterectomy and ooperectomy in 4 weeks so this is why I need to be in good shape, I am actually looking forward to this as strange as it seems, cannot wait to get rid of these parts.

Thanks for the advice on the travel assistance program, this horrid bc is a costly disease.  In Wodonga I could only have the radiation done at the private hospital, after Medicare I think I was close to $4,000 out of pocket.  So nothing left in the kitty to pay for other boob to be fixed.

yes my PS is Hamish and I have been waiting for him for public patient work for 3 years, (he only does so many a year public), so if you are in a hurry, Id suggest his off sider that works in the same clinic. My friend had her reco done 4 months ago with Derek and is very happy. Im wanting a full reco and a pump up job for the other boob to a before kids 14C so Im willing to wait for Hamish .  As to my weight loss progress I have now lost 11 kilos and have a surgery date in November, so I have to get a riggle on to loose the last 5 kilos before then. Hamish will only operate on PPL at a BMI of 30or less. There are calculators online to see what you are. Where do you have to travel from? Your profile is set to private so I couldnt see. Remember the travel assistance program and to claim when you go to these appointments when over 100 kms from your home.

saw your blog when searching for Austin Hospital and am wondering how you are going on your weight loss challenge?

I have been referred to Hamish Farrow who I believe does public work at the Austin Hospital. Is this your PS?  My case is a tricky one, I have had a lumpectomy followed by raditaion.  Finished 6 weeks ago, so far so good, except for a new lump that has come up in my ax gland, am getting ultrasound on Monday and trying not to stress too much. 

My bc breast is now 12C with other breast 12F would like to reduce this one. It would be an 8hr round trip to go and see Mr Farrow, so am wondering if it will be a waste of time, as this may be classed as cosmetic?

Do you think your surgeon was sympathetic towards you as a public patient.  Sometimes I am not sure if we are just a number.

I am weight concious, walk my 2 dogs every day if possible. When first diagnosed I was walking 15klms a week with my dog Fudge, during radiation Fudge got hit by a car and we didn't think she would make it.  Wonderful hubby quickly got replacement. Fudge has made a miracle recovery and now has a playmate Boo. Life is not meant to be easy is it.
