Not good results

After havig a CT scan my oncologist rang me the next day to tell me that the chemo wasnt working ( have had four rounds of Adriamycin, was working, now not)  onco told me that the cancer is active, i have breathing issues, very tight in chest and just breathless all the time.
Am to have bloods tomorrow and then start on taxol for however many weeks.
I feel like I'm on my last legs.  I'm hoping its just the chemo taking its toll, am down to 53kgs as it is a real effort to eat....hubby is doing everything in the house and doesn't seem to mind. I'm concerned about taxol and whether I'm strong enough to handle it.  Yes I know most of you ladies out there will say discuss with onco and i will ..... i am physically weak and can barely shower myself let alone do anything else.  Anyone got some moral boosting opinions? Or am I putting the cart before the horse

  • Thanks girls, i feel comforted in that we are all on this metastatc journey together and everyone is at a different stage or been there done that. (although it sucks to be on this journey
Primek, i hope you right about taxol that it will be easier. I know everyone handles chemo differently....i could cope better if i could just get rid of the breathlessness...i just want to start feeling well again.
  • I think you'll find the taxol easier especially if it can quickly reduce the tumours. Adriamycin is very strong and it makes you run down so don't start thinking it is only the cancer causing this fatigue. It will improve and I have everything crossed the taxol starts shrinking the tumour for you. I was breathless on chemo too despite perfect bloods. It was hard but it did get better. Kath x

  • G'day fellow country girl @Jenv
I am sorry to hear your news but know you are in good hands with that hubby of yours - what a champion he is.
Wait until the blood results are in, try to keep calm and rested and do try to eat small amounts, even if it is high protein drinks several times a day to help you stay as healthy as possible.
Have a good talk to your medical team and go from there - and keep warm on these cold days (especially tomorrow !).
Wish I could land on your doorstep with a bunch of bright daffodils to cheer you.
    Thinking of you    Summer  :-)

  • So sorry to hear this, Jen.
Your mental health is as important as your physical well being, probably more so if you feel your body is letting you down. I've got no advice except to give yourself permission to enjoy what ever appeals to you. That may not be much, but don't let guilt or anything else get in the way. It sounds like your husband is doing a fantastic job,  with someone that caring on your  side, I'm sure if there was something you want (or don't want) to do you will get 100% support.

Taxol is a drag, but remember that if something gets too much for you, you can always withdraw. I guess it depends where your head is, you are the only one who can weigh up the equation.  Wishing you the best. This is a shit of a disease. Marg xxx
