Normal or not?

Hi ladies, it's day 12 since my first chemo treatment, I am expecting hair loss, of course. The last 2 days, my scalp has been sore to the touch. Is this a sign of the scalp getting ready to release my hair, so to speak? Probably a silly question, but it's even tender when i put my head on my pillow. Just my usual question, is it just the norm or is it unusual?

  • Thanks, ladies. It puts my mind at ease to know it's completely normal, well, normal for our situation:) I will tackle the shaving very soon and hope that eases the sorness. Going ok with the chemo, always think to myself, could be worse. Took some time to adjust to the tiredness, i know now to just do what i can when i can. Thanks again,

  • Hi Hazel. Yep that's the first sign. Sore and itchy scalp. Two days after this soreness happened, my hair started to come out in clumps so I decided to shave it off completely. I agree with Leonie. Once I shaved my head, the soreness did ease and even though I bawled my eyes out when my husband was shaving it, afterwoods I felt fine as it was something I still had control of and it wasn't the chemo that beat me. Good luck Hazel. Hope you're not doing too bad with the chemo. Love Janey xxx
  • I agree with the other ladies mine was sore and it was itchy, I ended up with infected hair folicles and needed cream for my head, charming.....................

I hope that you are managing ok with the chemo its an unpleasant experience but can be made easier with drink loads and having thosr precious meds near by.

    Take care

  • The top two comments are the same as my experience.  I found once I shaved my hair off, the soreness eased.  Good luck with your treatment - remember to be very kind to yourself.  You are number ONE.  XLeonie

  • That's what it is,but for me,even though my scalp was sore to touch, just before my hair started to come out,it has remained sore,on and off,for the last 8weeks.My hair started to come out on day 14 after my first chemo.Good luck with the rest of your treatment.Robyn
  • I have been through chemo twice; once in 2002 and again in 2011. What you're feeling is completely normal. I had that sore feeling both times, right before my hair starting falling out at day 14. All the best for the rest of your treatment, Jane.
