Next Steps

Well so much has happened in the last couple of days....  Firstly thank you to the lovely ladies who have posted comments......

Being an internet junkie i am amazed at the amount of information available on the net....  not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing... :-)

However I feel so much more informed now than i did before..  Having got a copy of my pathology report has helped too and i have read it so many times i think i have almost memorised...

I at least now think i understand exactly what i am dealing with.

Add to that two close family members dealing with BC in the past  (one being my mum) I think has influenced the path i am leaning towards.

I dont want to have to go through this again any time soon so I am leaning towards double mastectomy and reconstruction.  I am 51 and work full time I have 3 kids and 3 grand kids and a wonderful husband who will support whatever decision i make and help me through recovery.

Would love to hear from anyone who has been down this path

Chris

  • Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but welcome to the network. I was diagnosed in September 2013, I was the 7th in the family to get breast cancer starting with my maternal grandmother. My Mum, 3 of her sisters and my elder sister all went through the process. Big decisions had to be made by me and it's really hard to know what to do. I tended to steer clear of the internet apart from this site, lots of crap out there. I ended up having a lumpectomy, chemo, rads and hormone tablets. I am doing genetic testing down the track and depending on what is found, I will make a decision on my future. Whatever you decide I wish you well, big hugs to you, take care,

  • Hello

Sorry to see you here but a very big welcome. I am 54 and was diaganosed in Jan. As my tumor in the left breat was very big I have had to do chemo first to shrink. Just done my 4th round. I am then having a double mastectomy and the radiation. I think you approaching the cancer sensible it's not a nice place to be at the start of your journey and as you "speak" to other women and use this site it will become easier. I made the mistake of researching everything and there is a lot of crap on the internet and always extreme stories so be careful. This site is very relaible. Talking to a breast nurse and joining phyisical support groups would also be helpful and you can draw great strength from other women. Healing hugs take care and one day at a time.
