Newly diagnosed less than 2 weeks - scared

Hi,

I'm 48, with two beautiful teenagers.

My first post.

After having a mammogram and ultra sound for a lump showed increased density, but nothing definite.  I was advised to have a needle biopsy and while doing the procedure it still just looked like 'fatty bits' in my breast.  I was completely shocked when the pathology results came back the next day with malignant cells and something that looked relatively small.

Last week I had an excision of breast lump and sentinel node biopsy.  It was much bigger than expected 40mm mucinous.  One out of 3 nodes had micro mets show up later in pathology. It's hormone receptor positive and her2 negative.

I'm about to have further excision next week.

I know there's a long 'journey' ahead.  So far it's been a rollar coaster ride and I haven't even started yet.  More surgery - chemo - radiotherapy.

  • Hi Kazzi, welcome to this network. You are at the very scary stage and it looks like the goal posts have been moved on you already with having to have more surgery. It's not uncommon.I was 47yrs old when I got my first bc diagnosis and had 2 teenage girls. That was 12 years ago.I had to have a lumpectomy full node clearance and radiation- my bc was also estrogen +ve. 7 yrs later it came in the same breast and I had to jump through all the hoops again. That was 5 yrs ago and I'm enjoying life now. When bc is caught early you'll most likely be fine. Once all your pathology is through, you'll get a plan and you'll feel a little better. The treatments are hard but just tackle them one at a time.So sorry you've joined us but this is truly the best place to come for info and support. Big hug, Tonya xx
