New diagnosis of Hyperplasia and Polyp

Thanks Michelle, that's a big help. I am holding off my pap smear until about March which will be 12 months on after chemo. If there is anything starting amiss it should show up then. No bleeding or pain for me so I must be fine.

I was 52 when I was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, it was 3 cm x 2,5 cm x 1.8 cm.

I had not started menopause, but the first round of chemo sent me into it though.

When I started Tamoxifen my Oncologist had told me there was a very small chance that some women may develop Uterine Cancer from Tamoxifen but this is usually found early and easily fixed with a hysterectomy. He also said that in the future there would be yearly vaginal ultrasounds. I had been on Tamoxifen for three years and not had one yet.

My surgeon had said to have yearly Pap Smears, Oncologist said no different to anyone else, so two yearly. At no point was seeing a gyno mentioned.

I was told the first sign would be bleeding. Well this is what happened, I went to the loo and noticed there was some spotting, concerned but did my 5 km Parkrun when finished, checked and there was quite a bit more. I then had to drive 6 hours home (I had been in Rockhampton for the birth of newest grandson)  Worried all the way home. Had to wait to call GP on the Monday, mine was away so had to see one of the others. The bleeding continued but not as heavy as a period.

Things moved very quickly pap smear done, call to gyno, I was seeing my surgeon on the Wednesday also see the gyno that afternoon (I live in regional Qld 2 hours from my specialists). Gyno did an internal, vaginal ultrasound and showed me the polyp on the screen. 

He wanted to do a hysteroscopy  (cameras and equipment to see inside) and resection (cut remove) polyp the next week . I was leaving on a cruise he said another ten days wasn't going to make a difference. Arrived back on the Thursday had surgery the next day. Polyp was removed (larger than thought) and samples taken.

When I look back there may have been the occasional pain, pinkish or streaked discharge but nothing to grab my attention.

So now I wait. I am not scheduled to see oncologist till March but will call on Tuesday to ask his opinion about Progesterone.

Hi!  I went through the same thing last year and luckily after the D&C everything was good.  I am on checks (vaginal ultrasound) each 6 months to see if there are any changes and I'm under a Gynaecology Oncologist.  How did mine come about, I had a polyp that prolapsed.
Hoping your D&C is all that is needed

Thank you for the update, I have been thinking of you! 

I am right behind you on this one. I am  booked in for a D+C Wednesday then an uneasy weeks wait for the results. 
My oncologist and GP have given me conflicting information on the treatments for hyplerplasia which is confusing! 

I am not a medical expert by any means but it has highlighted the need to understand all the options being offered.  Often the specialists don't see your big picture and you need to be across everything in regards to your treatment.

Write down all your questions before your next appointment and try not to worry!

Update 
Saw my GP yesterday - interesting conversation!

She asked how things were progressing since surgery, informed her polyp not cancerous, have hyperplasia, and likely to have to have progesterone. See Gyno in two weeks when he wants to discuss and go through all pathology reports.

Also said I was still taking Tamoxifen, asked if, since surgery could another polyp be growing and thickening of the uterus continue ? answer was YES!

She said they usually insert an IUD, asked how long I would have this for, and told as long as I was on Tamoxifen(I have another seven years to go) asked why couldn't I just have a hysterectomy and be done with it all, told they don't like to do it because of some complications that can arise. Asked why would I have an IUD releasing low doses of progesterone when my breast cancer was 95 - 100% ER+ and PR+, she checked results of pathology and then told me she would go for hysterectomy as well.

Now I am even more worried and have a lot more questions!This damn merry-go-round! I would just like to get off!

Hi Susie, thanks for the update.  Modesty mmmm... you sure get tired of flashing boobs to all and sundry now the other end. I am glad yours was found early and it is not too long before D+C. I am lucky that I have private hospital cover and don't have to wait, surgeries usually happen the next week. I had a hysteroscopic resection done. It is always a worry with every little ache and pain that you get as to whether to get it checked out or ignore! I haven't come to a good balance with that yet! My fingers are crossed that you will have tests and results soon. Stay positive, we will get of this merry go round.

Hi Michelle, just an update from me ...
I am back on the treadmill and on the waiting list for a D+C .. and I was just starting to get back some of my lost modesty!  I am just grateful that this problem has been found and testing starting to make sure that there is nothing more sinister going on which is now always in the back of my mind.   Back to the waiting game as gyno team were not willing to discuss too much until they have the D+C results.   I did get the sence that is was not uncommon and there were limited treatment options ie. IUD's or hysterectomy ... hmm... back to limbo land!

Hi Susie, I know how you feel! It is an interesting road we may have to walk.I have been taking Tamoxifen for just over three years, just seems that if there is something than can go wrong or be uncommon I seem to have to deal with it. I would be interested to know what your gyno team have to say as I don't see mine until 2/12, I am still taking Tamoxifen every day which is a little worrying ( is it getting worse every day?) Sometimes I just want to get of this merry-go-round. Maybe there are simple solutions to hyperplasia!

Hi Michelle,
I have also just been diagnosed with hyperplasia and will be seeing the gyno team tomorrow.  I have been taking tamoxifen for 6 months and have been told to stop until I have had further tests.  I understand about you being in limbo ... I thought that after finishing treatment that there would be a bit of a break before any further problems surfaced but feel like I am about to hit the medical treadmill again.
