Neutropenia

Ugh last night my temp spiked, was admitted to hospital thru A&E,  probably for two or three days, neutropenia!

I am in a single room, anybody entering my room has to be gloved, masked, gowned, feels a little isolated, very quiet, but today my hubby has bought in ipad and mobile modem, so at least I can get online.

well I think that's about the whole list if possible side effects ticked off now! Oh no I still have some hair!

  • How frustrating for you. How low did your neutrophils go? Just wondering why they haven't given you the filgrastin. It doesn't make sense. Do you have any other medical conditions or allergies that might stop it? Are you in a major town/ city, or regional?

    take care, Lyn

  • Today it's 0.53 getting closer to the magic 1 that they will me go home!!!!

ugh frustrating! Making notes of things to ask! Thanks guys xx

  • Definitely ask about it. Also ask about Neulasta for after your next chemo. It's a longer acting booster, but not funded by PBS/ Medicare for bc until you've had an episode of febrile neutropenia.

    Take care, Lyn

  • Thanks guys ?? I'm still in my isolation room, my neutrophils are only 0.23 up slightly but not high enough to go home. Looks like I'll be here for a few more days.

I have radiotherapy planning app on Thursday, I asked would I be out and able to make that, they said they would arrange transport to take me so I didn't miss it so sounds as if not to expect going home soon?

Nobody has said anything about injection to boost cells tommorrow when drs come round I'll ask!

    hugs back! Xx

  • I had 2 filgrastin injections, which brought my neutrophils back up to 6.3 or so. I felt back on top of things in just under a week. I'm working Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Was admitted on a Tuesday night. Went back to work the following Wednesday. This cycle, as I've now had the episode of febrile neutropenia , I was given an injection of Neulasta, a long acting white cell booster. I'm 5 days post chemo at the moment, watching what happens this time. They didn't find a cause for my temp, which isn't uncommon I believe. I had IV antibiotics until neutrophils came up, then home on oral antibiotics.

Hope you're on the mend. Take care,

    Lyn

Only 3 to 4 days. They tested my blood every day, and I was allowed to go home once my white cells started up again. I went home on oral antibiotics. Cuddles, Trace ??

  • As if we don't go through enough! Thank god for the Internet eh!?

sounds like you still have a great sense of humour though. Good for you. Definitely need to have some of that in this game.

Been to A&E a couple of times but thankfully didn't have to stay in but you do get put in an isolation room of course. I've just had my 4th dose of TAC, so two more to go.

Best of luck with your treatment. Xx

  • That's where I ended up,after my 4th cycle, but 1st of Docetaxel. Take care, and get well soon, Lyn

Oh Flutterby, I feel your pain. I was right where you are following my first round of chemo, in isolation ward, sick with cellulitis of my wound. Glad that you now have your iPad and something to keep your mind busy. Your white cells will return, so you'll be much better soon. It does give you a big fright and lots of frustration as well. I hope that you're feeling on top of things again soon. Sending you a big cuddle, Trace ??????
