Neulasta Injection

Hi All,

Just had my first Tax yesterday and now have to give myself a Neulasta Injection at 12:30pm Melbourne time today.

I am a little bit nervous about this and would appreciate any tips that you ladies can give me as to the angle of the needle e.g. do I go in like a dart or at an angle.

Either me or my hubby will be doing this, so any tips would be great.

All the best,
Ann

  • I took 3 hours to talk myself into my first injection (I hate needles too!)  The thought of self-injecting made me procrastinate with housework I suddenly found.  Finally, I just did it - after psyching myself up in the mirror!!  I was SO proud of myself I thought I'd share it with friends...  My clever moment was shattered, however, as I realised I was attempting to send my text message on the TV remote!!!

Well done for getting the job done!

    Mon :)

  • Thank you Shazinoz and Dan for your input.  Yes Dan, we were shown the video, I guess I am a panicker :)  All went well though so that is another first for me done and dusted. All the best, Ann

  • Did the nurses not show you how??? Grab a piece of flesh and pop it in, the quicker the better! If you're not confident, get your hubby to do it. Good luck!!!
  • Thanks for that Heather, since starting chemo I have developed a dislike for the needle, but at least I don't have to find a good vein :) Ann

  • Don't be scared, just have someone with you the first time. I found taking three deep breaths (inhale/exhale) before I started calmed me down; then exhaling as I did the jab somehow made it easier. The very first time I did it, I asked a friend (a nurse-in-training) to come and 'supervise' me. I read the instructions, then read them again, aloud, as I did each step. I was nervous as hell but felt kinda proud of doing it myself --  and it's way better than trekking back to hospital every time. Good luck!

    Go well,
    Heather
