needle experience during outpatient consultation

Hi ladies, I have had an experience and would like some feedback please.

After a lumptectomy in April and radiation after that I noticed a slight thickening of my breast not far from the scar.

My local doc felt it and said it felt like normal tissue but considering my history to get it checked.  I rang the lovely BC Nurse and she squeezed me in on the 23rd December at Clinic.  The breast/oncologist/surgeon had a feel around and nothing felt sinister (I didn't let him know at this stage what I had felt) - I then pointed it out.

He had  a feel and said it felt ok but then he said he would stick a needle in to see if it was a cyst (it wasn't) and he withdrew some fluids, popped it off the the lab.

Now ... looking back, I am concerned he just stuck the needle in without ultrasound ... anyone else every experienced this?

  • Back in 2003,after a mammogram showed a suspicious lump,my surgeon did a fine needle biopsy in her room. She could feel the lump and didn't need an ultrasound to guide her.The 2nd time was different(2010)- I had a suspicious,3cm scattered area so had a core biopsy under ultrasound.Either method is used so don't worry in that regard. How awful for you to have to worry and wait at this time of year.I had to have a full body bone scan 10 days before Xmas.It was an anxious wait but a relief when I got the all clear. Fingers crossed for you,Tonya xx
