Need help!!!

As I am 31 and having breast cancer there are plenty of things being thrown at me that I really not had to think about till now. One being having children, which i have none. With my chemo starting next month. My oncologist has informed me of the 50/50 chance of been having children after my treatment has all been finish. So I've started looking into freezing my eggs. I have rang up a local ivf clinic and their unable to start treatment until August and with the cost of $12000. The date alone is far too late to to keep my chemo on hold. As I live in central Queensland I'm limited to clinics. So I'm asking if anyone knows of any clinics in Brisbane that come highly recommended. Or even asking for anyone's advice or experiences that has had to go through this. Any advice to me will be muchly appreciated xox Mandi

  • Hi Mandi,

Just wanted to say hi... and am thinking of you.  I can only imagine how difficult it is for you at this stage.  I have found BCNA a fantastic way to connect with other women in the similar situations....

    kindest, Kerin

  • Hi mandi...just saw something on my news app and tv about zoladex...I think it puts the ovaries to sleep when going thru chemo...I thought of u, not sure how available it is or if it would suit u, but thought I would mention it anyway...good luck Jo
  • Hi Mandi, Jess from BCNA here, just jumping in to say hi/welcome :-) It looks like you are finding your way around the online network and you have already connected in with some of the women. If you do need a hand with anything on the Network, just shout.

I also wanted to let you know that we have some information on 'Fertility-related choices'  you might find useful.

  • Hi Mandi,

Sorry to hear about this. I was in the same situation last year just a few weeks before my 30th birthday last year. My breast care nurse helped arrange an appointment at a fertiliy clinic. My specialist worked at a public hospital but also had a private clinc. It was covered by medicare and I didn't have to pay for anything. I'm in WA so don't know if it's different here. I managed 2 sessions of IVF before chemo. Sadly both attempts to harvest eggs failed. I think maybe because I had only just came off the pill. I was also given an implant in my stomach to protect my ovaries, think it was called zoladex. My periods stopped during chemo, I finished chemo end of November and they came back in April. Although I've been told to wait 2 years before I can try to get pregnant.

Hope this answers some of your questions. Look after yourself.
