HELP !
Really struggling with nausea and now constipation. ( oh lord the things we share)
i have some coloxal and movicol and can feel some rumblings.
I had my first chemo AC on Monday and they gave me Ondanstron and Maxalon but still felt absolutely terrible.
Would love to know what anti nausea drugs worked for you?

  • The steroids given through the drip and also I think it was emend capsule one hour before chemo worked for me plus the steroids I took home. Do they give you the emend capsule before chemo ?.
Constipation was also a battle with ac chemo. I used coloxy tablets before bed and that helped.
  • The only thing I could drink for a couple of days was coffee frappe, but I couldn't handle the smell or taste of normal coffee.
  • @Finch I can’t stomach water at present and as a big water drinker I miss it terribly.
Thanks heaps gals. I am struggling drinking so made so ice blocks with pear and pear juice and got come coloxal.
And will speak to my oncologist before my next treatment to look at other nausea medication.

  • @Melc503 adding to the advice above, drinking plenty of water.
2 1/2 - 3 litres a day.  Measure up a jug in the morning and keep drinking through the day.  I felt it helped a lot.  I had constipation but managed it with water, prunes and all the fruit even though it all tasted like flour and soap . Chia seeds are supposed to be good also.  I made a jar up with water.  Good luck . Xxxx
  • Hi Mel. I took Pramin for nausea and it worked well for me.

Constipation was a massive issue for me throughout chemo. Coloxyl with senna just wasn't cutting the mustard, so on my GP's advice I ended up taking Osmolax and it was fantastic. It got me going enough to make me comfortable-ish! It's a very neutral tasting powder so you can very the dose until you find the right amount for you.

I also ate half a dozen prunes everyday! Good luck, K xox
  • The only thing that worked for me was celery sticks. But only whilst I was eating them. I ate an awful amount but the bonus was, it has great fibre. I dipped them in hommus for extra taste and fibre and sometimes peanut butter. I hope you find some relief for both.
  • My onc prescribed Ativan - he reckons it's the best thing and I started off with shocking nausea. It's an anti-anxiety drug so it also makes you sleep so you can't drive on it.  But honestly, sleep was wonderful during thos first few days.  Also (at separate times) Somac and Nexium for indigestion and reflux.
  • Hi @Melc503,

AC is the pitts isn't it.  Maxalon was useless for me but the ondansetron worked a treat.  Plus I swallowed handfuls of ginger travel pills in between. I used the Blackmores ones.  They don't last long but handy to have around and in your handbag just in case.  Can't stand the taste of them now though.
Hope it starts getting better soon.
