My Fight Begins

I was diagnosed a week ago and had surgery on Thursday to remove the cancer and they took I believe all the nodes out as the closest one was positive. Am home thankfully and just had my first visit from the community nurse. Am just hanging in limbo until we get the patholgy results back on Thursday afternoon. At this stage, I am completely overwhelmed and scared of what is in front of me. My mother was diagnosed at exactly the same age and did not make it. That was 20 years ago and I know in my head how far research and technology has come since then. I have amazing friends and family around me who have already done a roster to supply dinners. Am just wishing this week away so I can get my results and know exactly where I stand. xxx

  • The waiting is so hard - we understand because we have been through it.  Keep as busy as you can, and read the My Journey booklets from BCNA - they have all the information you will want to know about treatments.  I am so sorry that you have to join us here, but everyone is so supportive and helpful you will always have back-up. Once you get your pathology, you will find the time really goes quickly and the treatment roller coaster will start.  You don't say what kind of surgery you had, so do hope you are comfortable at home.  Your Oncologist will quickly get things rolling once you know where you are.I am sorry about your mother.  You are right that treatments have changed from 20 years ago, and the outcomes are so much better.  Last year I had bilateral mastectomies, chemo, radiation, and hysterectomy, and it was all do-able, just taking it one day at a time, and one step at a time.  Keeping a notebook diary really helps with appointments, questions to ask, symptoms, etc.Let us know how you go next week.  Sending you a big hug.  Michelle x
