muscle weakness
I'm nearly three weeks post chemo. The last round really kicked my butt. Arm and leg muscles feel so weak that I can't stand very long. I know I've lost a lot of condition these last six months while doing chemo plus I really haven't eaten much in that time as no appetite and add dehydration in as well. I've lost 4kg in the last 3 weeks. Did a lot of you ladies find muscle weakness an issue. Yesterday I did some gardening and today I can barely move. My knees also crack and creek and this was never an issue prior to chemo. This is such a long journey and I wonder if I'll ever feel me again. Surgery is just a couple of weeks away then rads. It's all so exhausting.

- LITHGOW1950MemberSome great ideas above. For me it was a few things that helped. 1 exercise physiologist ( she gave me exercises I could do from home or while we are caravanning) 2. Walking, I have always walked at least 5 days a week but couldn't through all the treatment but I'm back in full swing now, finished active treatment June 2016. And the one I love number 3. Yoga. Great for body and mind.
It takes time and effort but I feel great now. Still do a meditation/rest most days. And yes sometimes have "off" days.
take care, Anne-Marie. - melclarityMember@LMK74 Chemo absolutely debilitated me. Muscle fatigue, weakness and pain yep! I had to learn to walk again pretty much, been a very long road. Thanks to my Exercise Physiologist I'm doing incredibly well but I also am 18 months post chemo now. Basically I had to rebuild from the ground up, somedays are still a little hard but it does improve. Key is balance really in all things. M
- Brenda5MemberI thought I would get better months down the track from chemo but hormone therapy is also rough on bones and energy levels. I didnt do so well when I found this out but I am coming to terms with the age 20yrs thing and live in hope that after my 5yrs of Tamoxifen are up, things will get back to normal.
- LMK74MemberThanks @Afraser, Unicornkisses and sparkles. Who would've thought chemo could have all these effects on the body. It's a hard slog this whole process but so glad to see the back of chemo.
- UnicornkissesMemberYes, muscles were weak during chemo, legs did not respond when I tried to walk briskly, and I had to stop three times when trying to climb a hill near my home. My arms were a bit better, but still tired easily.
I am 6 weeks out from last Docetaxol and the strength is returning.
I have exercises from the exercise physiologist which help, and I am pushing myself a bit more with walking.
A few weeks ago I was despairing, thinking that was how I was going to be, but I am improving rapidly now, so I hope you will when you get a few more weeks along too. - AfraserMemberI had peripheral neuropathy but that's usually pretty evident - pins and needles, tingling, sometimes burning and considerable pain, mainly in the extremities. But general weakness, no. I can walk well, all day if required, but find standing still for any length of time still turns my feet to jelly and as the feelings in my feet have significant blank patches, I sometimes have problems on uneven surfaces, so I keep running to a minimum as I too am sometimes not entirely sure where my sense deprived feet are! My knees aren't wonderful (getting up and down off the floor is mildly comic) but they were getting a bit like that before I started chemo and that was nearly 5 years ago, So probably not chemo caused.
- SparklesMember@LMK74 - I was pretty weak after my last chemo, and it took about 6 weeks to feel like I was starting to get back on track - much longer after the last than any of the others. However I am now much stronger & can walk up to 5 kilometres, have a health plan through my GP & am working with an exercise physiologist to help improve my strength and stamina. I hope you start to regain strength soon - it is frustrating.
Lesley - LMK74Member@Molly001, let's hope it's temporary.
- Molly001MemberYes @LMK74 me too. I'm 39 going on 80. Was fit, strong, slim & healthy. Now weak, fat & slow. I have a lot of aches... lower back, hips, kness, shoulder, feet. When I sit it's hard to get up. I'm also hoping this is a temporary state of affairs!!
- LMK74MemberThanks ladies for your input. @AllyJay just the image I get regarding the walker made me smile. I can imagine someone head down on their phone and you bleating a horn at them while they suddenly jump out of their skin lol and possibly drop their phone and break it.
I'm 43 and feel like my body is that of someone much older.
