moved house, end of AC, Pegfilgrastim & on to the next step.... Paclitaxel
I'm having my 4th AC tomorrow and then either next week or the week after (7th or 14th Sept) I start 12 weeks of weekly Paclitaxel - originally he was going to do dose dense (4 x 2 weekly) but then changed it, my Oncologist said that the side effects are much less on this one & that my body will cope better. In a lot of ways I'd much prefer to just get it over & done with rather than adding another month on to my treatments! i have coped pretty well with the Ac so if this one is easier on my body, why stretch it out?
I haven't had many side effects with the AC, not much in the way of constipation, I've had nausea for about week after, but found ways to manage that, the lethargy was probably the worst, but i found i had about 3 days where i had energy.
i moved house during all of this as well, a week after round 2 - i was lifting & carrying boxes with lethargy, but i pushed myself to get it done. i ended up being very run down, my 3rd infusion had to put off twice (a week & a half) and I had to have an injection of Pegfilgrastim - the first shot they gave me at the hospital, i started to have muscle spasms up my back, apparently just a side effect, but they lasted all day & were quite painful, then the following week i had round 3 of AC, then opted to self-inject the Pegfilgrastim myself at home the next evening (super easy to do in my tummy) and OMG my whole body just hurt, muscles & joints ached, either side of my tongue felt swollen as if I had tonsillitis, my body was so sore to touch for around 3 days. I feel that perhaps I had a bad reaction to it? I will speak to my Medical Oncologist tomorrow as i really don't want to have this shot again! The other side effects i've had (apart from hair loss) was that damned metallic taste! that is the cause of a lot of my nausea. I have found things like a quarter of a lemon in my water bottle helps, as does eating & drinking strong flavoured and/or acidic things helped a lot - pretty much the same hings as I did when I was pregnant with my first. Salad with tomatoes & balsamic glaze got rid of the nausea one day. A glass or two of coke helps at times (same as when i was pregnant LOL) Other times sucking on a boiled lolly helped. the lemon in my water is the latest thing to work as my water was tasting awful, and i normally drink a fair bit of water. Sleeplessness is another.
I've had very little constipation, and not very bad - i only used the coloxyl a couple of times. My eyes watering & nose running like severe hay fever has been an issue though. This was mostly during the time I was moving house though, so I am assuming it's partially due to the dust. i found some great eye drops for daytime & different ones for night time, and just using a good eye moisturizer on my eye area. My weight has stayed stable, even though I am definitely eating more!
i am so over AC... i cannot wait until it's over & done with. I cannot wait for my hair to grow back too, my head gets cold at night.
I seem to be able to time things, whilst i'm lethargic, i can slowly unpack boxes & put things away, I tend to have 3 days of good energy levels, so on the first of these i go like crazy & get things done then rest the next two
