motoring along

Thought I would check in pre chemo and update my progress.  It is now 2 weeks since my Nipple Sparing Mastectomy and drain finally was removed yesterday. Pathology came back that tumor was 3cm (bigger than originally thought) but clear margins and lymph nodes clear. ER+ and HER2+ so now about to embark on merry go round of treatment. FEC x 4 three weekly then taxol x 12infusions every week.  At the same time as taxol Herceptin infusions will start every 3 weeks.  Seems so full on, but  am over the moon that our planned trip to italy for 4 weeks can go ahead in june after the FEC chemo! Have had to cancel part of holiday from 10 weeks to 4, but over the moon that we can still go for 4 weeks. Nervous about insertion of port a cath 2morrow and first FEC chemo in arvo.  Feel like I have been transported to another planet, all seems so surreal.

    Yes,you are now living in a parallel universe- cancerland. It's a long haul but you'll get through it by taking one bit at a time.I'm glad you'll get to have a holiday in Italy- something to look forward to.I think it's good to have treats and fun times throughout treatments otherwise you put your life on hold for ages.Ofcourse there are days when you want to just hide under your doona and that's ok too.Good luck for tomorrow- big hug,Tonya xx

    How wonderful, a trip to Italy to look forward to! Having that ahead will help you to get through that first part of your Chemo. It does feel exactly like you've been transported to another planet or world when you are diagnosed. It's like you took a wrong turn and now you can't get back to your previous life! I'm so glad that you don't have to miss out on all of your holiday. Having breast cancer is bad enough without it destroying all of your plans. Good luck with your port and chemo tomorrow. Having a port will be so much easier for you in the long run. The chemo nurses love them because it makes their job easier too. I had FEC and found it not too bad. I did have some side effects for the first week, but found weeks 2 and 3 were pretty good. Hopefully this should mean you can enjoy your time in Italy. Take care. Deanne xxx
