More time spent in hospital !

Hi All

Just to give you guys all an update I have just spent another week in hospital hooked to the IV antibiotics for the plastics Dr's to try and find out what is going on with my left side or the tissue expander.

It now appears the redness is gone but I am still getting about the size of a 10 cent coin in the middle of my mastectomy area filling with fluid.

They yet again drained it when I was in hospital to run tests on it to see if it was infection but its not growing any bugs just the same as last time.

 I am still not allowed to do much at all so its starting to really get me down as all I want is a normal life again and it just seems so far out of reach atm.

If I do to much I get the redness again but it goes away when I dont do much.

Have any of you other lovely ladies had anything like this happen to you ?

Can they still fill the tissue expander if it is a seroma?

I have only got 50cc in there and really just want to get on with this process.

Im sick of being put in and out of hospital and getting no further advanced. My bi lateral operation was in Feb 2011 so Im a bit over it all now still lingering on and not getting any fills done.

Its so hard on us as we live 4hrs away from the hospital so it is costing us a fortune to travel back and forth and also so hard on our 2 young children.

Atm I just dont see the light at the end of this tunnel getting any closer soon !

    hang in lady , keep hounding the poweers that be till they give you an answer. and dont be brushed off. it's easy for the receptionists and doctors to say just do this or we'll try this , if they dont listen to you have some one go with you to jump up and down too.

    The strange part is that this seroma has only just started to come now and my op was in Feb 2011. I didnt have nay issues with a seroma after my drains etc came out til now?? I had only 1 node under my arm and one from in between my ribs removed so I am not sure its from the nodes .... Actually I dont really know what to think. Just want it all sorted. Thabks for your support it helps alot.

    hi michelle hope by the time you get this you are feeling better,i only had a partial mastectomy  and full axillary clearance of 15 nodes. by the time i had my 2nd chemo i was like you in hospital being drained and fighting infections.it is awful i really sympathise with you and can feel your anguish of just wanting it over, hang in we are all here for you. i hope things improve . there is nothing i can say that hasnt been said. but i send you strength and love.     Hi Michelle,

    I had a mastectomy(no expanders)and kept getting a seroma for about 6weeks.Doctor would drain it twice a week.There was no infection.I guess if you have no lymph nodes it can take a little while to settle down.What you are describing sounds like some sort of irritation from the expander-especially when you move that area too much. Hope your doctor can get to the bottom of it soon for you.The bcancer journey is long enough as it is -you sure don't need any set backs.

    So sorry to hear about your rough trot.  I can't offer any information as I haven't had a mastectomy but just want to let you know that I feel your pain.  Having young children is also difficult for you to cope with in conjunction with this.  Little ones always want Mummy.  I'm sure the doctors will soon work out what is happening.  If not is it possible for you to get another opinion?  Sorry to add more to your woes because it seems that distance is sure a big problem for you and this would most likely also mean you are limited with medical resources.  Hopely someone else online may have had similar problems and can offer you some adice.  Take care.
