Good morning everyone I have to have a rant. Today i went and got my new prescription of Arimidex and guess what it has gone up. Give me break I work full time, used my private health cover for all my treatment so out of pocket as not all covered. Ok my choice but I have to take this drug for 10 years and it keeps going up, what do you do. I tried Tamoxifon it is cheaper and for 2 months but made me feel anxious and if you listen to my husband a bitch. I feel better on Arimidex even with all the joint pain. I feel like I can't win a trick why are these drugs so expensive. This has really pissed me off as I feel I'm being penalised continually
Thanks for listening.

- primekMemberIf they can dispense 2 at once then much less cost. Worth looking at. They do it with antidepressants.
- iserbrownMemberSo true! A different brand of the drug can give you curry. I experienced it as my brand was unavailable for a month or so. Don't want that experience again it was yuk!
- I'm currently away on holidays and I just told the chemist that I was going away for 6 weeks and got 2 months Arimidex filled - no questions asked.
great idea if we can get a double dose! The new month comes around in a blink! I'm seeing my surgeon 9 Feb for my 6mth post op review so I'll see if he can request that when he reissues my script.
I have minimal side effects so not game to change to a generic brand just in case.
Ridiculous that we need to pay so much for a drug which is going to help keep us cancer free!
Jane x - primekMemberI wonder if you can get an authority script for 2 months at a time. ..worth asking about.
- DeanneMemberI don't know if it's the same for Arimidex, but Femara is only supplied one month at a time, so that is $30.99 (or up to $38+ at some Chemists) a month. Where as when I was on Tamoxifen it was supplied in 2 month amounts. That is why Femara is much more expensive for me than Tamoxifen was. Almost double.
- melclarityMemberHey Rowdy! I just wanted to say, that Ive heard from a few family members just the past few days and they have scripts for different things and they too have gone up, so I believe it is across the board! I have private health cover, but luckily I guess in some way as Ive been a single parent for 6yrs and eventhough I work full time Im deemed a low income earner with only 1 wage coming in so I get a Health care card and honestly what a saving grace that is! its like $5.60 I think for a script.
- iserbrownMemberI go to Priceline and pay $35.11 for Tamoxifen
- rowdyMemberHi ladies I do go to a discount chemist it has gone up 50c. I will try another chemist to see if I can get for $30.99 thanks Deanne. I now the generic is supposed to be the same but I have heard of others having issues with different brands and at the moment I have enough side effects and don't want any others.

Hi Rowdy,
I got my script filled today - I am on Exemestane - and my script is $38.80.
I agree with Deanne, perhaps try either Priceline (I got mine from Priceline today) or a discount pharmacy.
I think it as gone up by 50 cents from last year (one of the many changes in scripts on the PBS up from 1 Jan).
Yes, I hear you - sometimes you weigh up the $$$ as opposed to how you feel but in the long run, it sometimes comes down to which one makes us function better !

- DeanneMemberHi Rowdy,
I get my Femara from a discount chemist. The PBS cost for Femara and Arimidex is the same I think (maximum of $38.30 I think). But I only pay $30.99 at the discount chemist. It is still much more than the cost of Tamoxifen though which does not seem right. Deanne xxx
