Hi Rowdy,
I've been on Arimidex for just over two years. Initially suffered joint pain severe enough for me to think about telling my oncologist to take me off it. The nurse running the Encore program recommended glucosamine.
I was told that the glucosamine takes about three months to kick in and have any effect, but I noticed a difference in less than a month. I've been taking a 1500mg once-a-day dose ever since.
My mother-in-law is also on Arimidex and has suffered joint pain (although less severe than mine) that the glucosamine hasn't resolved. She is a few months away from completing five years and is looking forward to being able to stop taking it to see whether her joint pain is drug-induced, or if the underlying cause is joints getting older and creakier.
I was also warned that if you start taking glucosamine and then stop, you instantly feel about 103 years old! I accidentally forgot to take it in September when I had my reconstruction and haven't resumed. I haven't had any joint pain and have my fingers crossed that maybe everything has just readjusted.
Best wishes with it all.
Megan
