mastectomy tomorrow

@LMK74 , they targeted my neck, clav, underarm and breast. My throat was fine, although 10 days after treatment has finished I am pretty tired and my collarbone and a couple of other bonier spots are pretty angry looking but not painful. Apparently this is the peak time for side effects now. My treatment also involved my skin being covered every 2nd time with a Gel mat as they wanted to bring the rays closer to the skin as they were also targeting that. So other than being red , covered in glad wrap ( very glamorous ) and solugel I have come through really well.

Don't worry about the rads yet, Lisa!
You'll have time for that later. BTW, even though everyone having sub clavicle rads gets told it is a risk, very few have really bad throat burns. Don't sweat the  small stuff.:)

Thanks @Kat09, how did your radiation go. Were you able to eat by the end of it. They tell me the throat will be sore by end of it. Still have that to look forward to.

Hi Lisa @LMK74 , wishing you all the best for your surgery tomorrow. I'm not far behind you, my Mastectomy and aux clearance is in just under 3 weeks.

Thanks @iserbrown, @Glemmis, and @Afraser. I'm hoping pain is minimal as I hate taking pills full stop, but will if I  have to.

I confess I had practically no pain at all - nurses were offering morphine and painkillers and only stopped when they discovered I had been squirrelling them away. I am no stoic, I just wasn't very sore. I found drains a bit of a trial as I kept tripping over them, but my dressing gown pockets proved perfect for stowing them! Horrible coffee so good advice from Zoffiel, but at the Epworth the food was good (dinner at 5pm less so!!). My only time in hospital before was for a caesarian so I too knew very little. Take things to while away the time ( I had a massive book), walk as soon as you can and exercise your arm as soon as you can and under advice - I had excellent mobility almost straight away, which is what you want. Hi @LMK74, I had my mastectomy & clearance late in the day returning to my room at 9.30. I had no pain & was up & about early next morning. They kept trying to force painkillers into me. The worst thing was the injection in the leg for blood clots but because I was mobile that stopped after 2 days. Good luck for tomorrow, take it easy! 

My best advice I can give is try and relax, take a deep breath and put faith in the surgeon. I had a watery eye as I lay on the bed in the holding bay listening to the lady next to me rattle off all her ailments and medications.  I started to think what am I doing here!  Anyhow I closed my eyes, refused a tissue to wipe away the tear as I wouldn't let it drop and relaxed myself as I knew Prof was going to do a damned good job, after all he'd just finished drawing on my chest and he did! 
I woke, thank goodness!!  feeling ok with a nurse asking what I felt were dumb questions hence you have to be careful how you answer otherwise you can get them off side.  I found the pain and discomfort soon eased and I only needed Panadol but we are all different in the way we react.

Good luck. Just think physical pain passes and just take whats on offer for relief. You can do this.
