My answers from what I know:
1.Women would only know they had dense breasts from mammographic or other screening of their breasts. The 'feel' is not a predictor or indicator.
2. There are no self-testing criteria as a %age estimate of density is made from interpreting the amount of white area on a mammogram. There was quite alot of discussion and various measurement techniques discussed at the meeting. At present this is an issue challenging the radiographers/radiologists so unlikely to be informative for the women at this stage in respect to 'self-testing'.
3. Yes. Women could certainly ask their screening person or doctor if they have dense breasts.
