Lymphodema

After just having had surgery and lymph nodes removed I wondered if it is advisable to wear a medic alert bracelet?

  • Thank you both for your comments. I'll think about it some more.
  • I have often thought about this.

I like the comment from the doctor though that if you are not in a position to let someone know not to use the arm in question then you are probably needing real help....it won't matter what they do to save your life.

    That makes so much sense.

I even contemplated getting a tattoo but it sort of defeats the purpose to have a thousand needles stomped into your arm to give an alert that you shouldn't have any needles or cuffs used on that arm............

I have found a medic alert bracelet that comes in all sorts of metals and value..... www.identifyyourself.com

Perhaps you could look at that and it would give you some options that give you peace of mind.

  • I had all of my lymph nodes removed as part of my surgery to remove my lump in 2005. I have also wondered about this and asked my Dr. His responce was if I was in a position where I was not able to inform whoever about my arm then it probably didn't matter which arm they used to try and save my life.   Which technically makes sense.  However I have heard of women who have special bracelets that inform of their condition. I don't know much about them though. I think it is personal choice and whether you can afford a MA Bracelet. I hope this helps.  Tania

  • I can't see that it is neccessary, but of course everyone's situation is different, and there is nothing to prevent you if you feel it is right for you.I hope that you are recovering well from your surgery, and remember to stayon this blog for help and advice.Cheers xoxRobyn

  • How are you huny? Congratulations on being a brave lady!!! When you ask about a 'Medic Alert Bracelet,' do you mean on the arm you had the surgery?

I was told since having the surgery where I had a lump removed and 3 lymphnodes also, to not have blood pressure, blood tests or wear anything too constrictive on the arm that relates to this. From time to time my watch gets a little tight so I have to remove it periodically due to some discomfort. I hope this helps to answer your question darl?

Just remember you are a wonderful lady and stay strong ok? take care always XXX Mia.
