Hi all, I am three weeks post-op following axillary dissection and still have drain in recording 100 mis a day. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this?
Thanks Socoda the only discomfort i have at the moment is burping a lot can't decide if i feel sick or is it indigestion so not sure what to take, i have Maxolon and Nexium in case. I am on my last dose of Dex so things may change after that as well.......
That's fantastic that your drain's out Wooda :) Hope your chemo has minimal discomfort and side effects and don't underestimate your amazingness !!!!!!! ;)
Thanks for all the reassurance, happy to report my drain came out at the four week mark after reaching desired level on three consecutive days, so far so good. Have now had port inserted and two days post 1st dose chemo. Long way to go, feel overwhelmed at the thought of it all but do get a great deal of relief from reading all your wonderful posts. You are all amazing!
its funny since I wrote this message it has calmed down, flared up and calmed down again. It all depends on what time of the day it is haha.As i said its a bit uncomfortable but its also bearable they try not to drain it as it could get infected and im 3 weeks into my first chemo so Id prefer no risk of infection at this stage too :)
Hi Wooda, yes thank you everything is going beautifully for me. I do feel occasionally like I am slightly tidal (my breast and arm feel fuller or less full depending on the day, time of day etc) but certainly nothing to worry about. So glad that you're feeling reassured. :) Dmcook I can only imagine how uncomfortable that must be. So glad for you that it doesn't hurt, hoping for you that it settles down soon. It's certainly one time you don't want to be an overachiever. Brenda how frustrating. Three weeks of emergency visits is crazy. I think the big push to have everything removed asap has some big issues. Shame your drain wasn't left in that bit longer. How's your beautiful hair going?
They took my axillary drain out after only a week or two and I think it should have been left in longer as it started swelling and eventually burst through the old drain hole. I cleaned it up and reported it but they didn't think it was a problem but I ended up weekly for 3 weeks lining up at emergency to get it drained. They strapped my chest in a huge pressure dressing, trying to make it settle down and it did...eventually.
Your lucky Socoda, my drain was removed three weeks ago and ive had seroma twice. After first week had to get it drained 500ml and now i have seroma again but waiting on my next appointment to see if it gets drained again. It doesnt hurt any just annoying to have.
Hi Wooda, I had left mastectomy with immediate reconstruction and sentinel node biopsy with 4 other nodes removed. I had two drains initially with first drain removed after two weeks but had my second drain for eight weeks! I was told it had to be under 20mls for two consecutive days. I didn't make that level. At the eighth week my surgeon removed the drain as she said it was quite possible it was the drain causing irritation and was keeping the levels at around the 40ml mark. Once the drain was removed I didn't even get a seroma. All good!! Hope this helps!! Xx Cath
