LUMPECTOMY
Hi there, I have recently been diagnosed and have a lumpectomy tomorrow 14 Feb. This is my first surgery in my life, and I am very anxious about it. Would love to chat to someone that has been through it already. Thanks alot

- The numbness can hang around for a while, too, @YellowRobin - mine is still a bit weird 2 years later!

i had my surgery on Monday for invasive ductal carcinoma. I stayed overnight and went home the next day. It went really well. Just keep ahead of the pain with the meds. The only thing I was unsure of was how do I look after the arm after node removal. They gave me a soft ball to gently squeeze during the day. As my arm pit and wound site started to stiffen and get a little numb I got worried because I didn’t know what to expect. In the end this gave me the opportunity to do little stretches because it was sort of numb. It worked, the armpit free’d up and after 5 days I’ve got great movement. Don’t overdo anything. I’m new to this so in no way an expert. Best of luck xx - All the best with surgery tomorrow @DEEDEEDEE

Thanks I am sure it will go well tomorrow, just anxious as this is my first time ever having surgery. - Hi@deedeedee. I had 2 lumpectomys in June 2019 for invasive ductal carcinoma. Yep both sides! I recovered quickly and not too sore. Ditto the above information also a top that opens at the front makes it easier for dressing. Take it easy at home let your family spoil you. Over thinking this daunting situation is very natural. I was a mess for weeks in the end I found it best to focus on each stage as it came about that way my brain was not working over time on things I could not control.Good luck for tomorrow I hope it all goes well for you.

I am in WA, right up at the very top of our state. I had my treatment and continue to have my followup care in Perth. My surgery was a lumpectomy and I was back in our accommodation venue within 4 hours of surgery.
This really is the best online support group for information, emotional support and, dare I say it, laughs. A more supportive group of people that,I doubt, would be found anywhere else.
I have made some "far away" warm loving friends through this forum and have had the privilege of meeting some of them.
Ask any question - there are no silly questions. Those questions have all invaded our minds at many times.
Do use BCCWA, the organisation that @JJ70 mentions. They were a godsend during my time in Perth when I was so far from home.
If you are fortunate to be allocated a Breast Care Nurse, use her.

Annie - HI @DEEDEEDEE. I am in Perth too. Diagnosed Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (Multi-focal) in Nov 2017. Let me know if you have any specific WA/Perth questions. Have you contacted Breast Cancer Care WA? They are an amazing resource. Please Google and get in touch with them. They have counsellors, breast care nurses, support groups, fun events, a library....the list goes on!! Itis the women I have meet here on the forum and at BCCWA that have got me through this shitfest.
