Low white cells 2 months after chemo
I learn something new every day. Apparently two months after chemo is finished you can still have low white blood cells. No wonder I can't get rid of this 2 week old head and chest cold. Dr said whatever you do don't get pneumonia and gave me some antibiotics and even a repeat if I need it. I was told to have a high protein diet. Apparently jelly donuts don't factor into that high protein diet lol. Nice try.

One thing that I can promise you works is marshmallow tea. Deceptively named as it is not cooked - involves steeping marshmallow root with cold water for 30min, straining then sipping slowly - up to 3 cups daily.
Not the easiest tea to find. Some health food shops have them as do a lot.of 'wog grocery' type places.
It saved me post 4 bouts of pneumonia over the years.

Hi Brenda,
Bwahahaha I love the idea of the dogs antiinflammatories!!! Just be careful with bronchitis as it has a tendency to go quiet while it applies a vice around your chest, due to all of the mucous settling. If you do find your chest getting tight the old steam bath (boiling water in a bowl with some eucalyptus oil in it and a towel draped over your head as you lean over the bowl is a always a good short term remedy) just don't let your chest get infected from it. Crossing fingers your aspro have do e the job Xx Cath

Halfway through my second lot of antibiotics and I was still lung crackling and coughing so yesterday I got on Dr google and by my symptoms I discovered I have bronchitis which is an inflammation of one or both bronchial tubes. This made perfect sense as when I put my own stethoscope over my lungs, the top bronchi on the left side was where all the noise was coming from. It did worry me a bit as that's directly under where my breast tumour was and the mastectomy surgery which is why I got on to googling as my Dr had said pretty much take these antibiotics and no follow up appointment.
Ok, so it's an inflammation of the bronchi, what reduces inflammation? Tempting tho it was, I resisted taking the old dogs anti inflammatory arthritis tablets and took a couple of aspro. Results? No crackly chest and barely a cough over night and this morning, still barely a crackle. Amazing!

Hi Brenda,
Have gone through and read all your older posts and I've got to say have learnt heaps about different meds to take during chemo and the trials you went through during your chemo. Thanks so much for the detail as I know its going to be invaluable during my own course and also all of the other newbies. Hope the head and chest cold are behind you and that you are feeling sensational and I also think jelly donuts should be included in one of the five main food groups, along with potato chips (vegetables), lollies (they can look like fruit) in fact I think they should just start the 6th food group being Comfort food!! Hope your well take care Xx Cath

For the first night in 2 weeks I got to sleep right through the night without hacking my lungs up with coughing. I even got a hot shower before bed as my son had gone easy with his showers during the day. Life is getting good.

Vitamin D was on the low side but neither Dr thought it warranted a supplement as I was within their guideline range. I don't have skin which tolerates sunlight that well and within 5mins I can feel burning so natural means of getting D is kind of out. I get diffused light through shade cloth every morning for an hour or so. Even then I sometimes need to hang a towel up to stop the burning feeling. I think I am vampiric lol.
