Low body temperature with taxol

Hello everyone on this gorgeous Sunday morning. I had a very interesting night last night and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my experience.  I have had 4×3 weekly AC and last Thursday had number 9 of 12× weekly taxol and along the way 4 rounds of herceptin thrown in. I am just excruciatingly tired and in awe of those of you who work through this and or have young children. I am 65 and have taken leave until 4th term on oncolgists advice. I try and force myself to walk each day. Anyway last night i woke in a cold sweat and had to change pjs but not so bad that sheets needed changing. Couldn't get warm even after adding more blankets. Took temp which was 35.1 and husband made me hot tea, lemon and honey. Temp went up to 35.8. Slept fitfully and on waking temp was 35.4. More liquids and now up to 36.6. Yeah. Still cold and under all the blankets and wondering what caused this and how low temp must be to go to hospita on case temp drops againl. Hugs to all on this beautiful day. Xo
  • Could be just the odd weather too. I got up the other morning feeling very hot. I looked at the thermometer and it said 22C so it was quite nice weather. After a while I was still very hot feeling and thought this has to be the longest hot flush in history so I took my temperature, twice! It was only 35C which is odd. Any way I was chatting to my 80yr old male neighbour and he said he was exactly the same that morning. He felt really hot but he didnt have a high temp either. We both seem ok now.
  • @Lmc1310  I have not experienced chills on Taxol. I do not want to alarm you but the only time I had chills was when I had a bout of cellulitis. Felt fine all day but in the evening had a bout of chills. Was feverish didnt feel right and then went to the gp the next night.  Was cellulitis ...then the next day onto breast care nurse and hospital.
I find emergency departments places to be avoided unless necessary.
So could be side effect of taxol but would not hurt giving your oncologist a call.
  • Hi @Lmc1310 just jumping in to say hello and welcome. If you are experiencing any side effects during treatment which may be causing you any concern, it can sometimes be best to have a chat with your Oncologist about it. Your Oncologist will be able to clarify any of those questions that pop up which you might not be sure about. Hope this helps and that you start to feel a little better soon. x
  • Thanks Zoffiel I didnt think of that. Primek i had a headache last night so had 2 soluble disprin. I wonder if this caused chills. Thanks for assistance it means a lot xo
  • I still, weeks after finishing chemo,  find getting into a hot bath is the only way I can get rid of the chills.
  • Also...out of curiosity. ..are you taking regular paracetamol?  I had to on taxol due to aches and pains.  I'm very sensitive to it and even without having a fever it always causes me to feel hot and sweat and lowers body temp. I recall now when checking temp before chemo I was always on low end. I also funnily enough thought all my flushes after chemo was the aramatose inhibitor  but once my chemo aches and pains improved and stopped needing panadol ostea...voila ...most of my flushes dissappeared also. It's only now when I occasionally have it that I recognize that. Kath x
  • Thanks Kath, your post makes a lot of sense. My oncologist advised me to go straight to hospital with high or low temperature. Trouble is  I didn't ask her what she considered low or high. You are right though regarding feeling otherwise well. Hoapitals are great plaves to stay out of. Thank you so much for your reassuring post.
  • I couldn't work on taxol either. I actually found it harder than AC in some ways. I was often cold then had dreadful hot flushes...then freezing after. It was like menopause starting all over again. It would then take hours to get warm. Can't say I ever took my temp. I guess as long as otherwise well I wouldn't get to focussed on the temp. A warm shower and layering of clothing so you can strip off and recover.  My hubby bought me some fluffly lined socks which really helped. I did find and still do even now find I have to watch getting too cold as it seems to take hours to recover and because of neuropathy my feet then really hurt. Hope things improve soon. Kath x
