Loosing my mind

My breast care nurse tells me it is normal to be a bit forgetful and I will return to normal after treatment. This is getting ridiculous I forget I have a tap running if I turn away from it! I can not leave the kitchen when I am cooking it case I forget what I am doing ( just saved the white sauce in a nick of time). Does any one else have this problem? I really do not know how anyone can work while on chemo. I do the farm office work so I am lucky working for myself I am flexible and I did give my kids(23,18) a crash course in Accounting and payroll before I went in for surgery. I can only concentrate in the morning the rest is a hard slog. I thought I would be back to normal for two weeks before next chemo, I am on 3 week cycle. As long as you can keep on laughing about it I suppose!

  • Thanks for the reassurance. I will be interested to know how the trial goes. I do sudoku and am trying to learn French, badly! Nice to know I am not alone.

  • Kim,

Two years since I finished all my treatments and I'm perhaps a little foggy but it has improved.  Actually this week I start participating in a study at Sydney University looking at cognitive changes post chemo.  So what you're experiencing is real and this study apparently will look at some strategies that my help reduce the effects of chemo brain.

Good luck with everything - like you I am in awe of those ladies who keep working through treatment - there was no way I could have functioned at work.

Oh Kim, I think that we all get a bit foggy on the chemo, it's just part of the joys. It's bad enough that they pour poison into your body, to expect normal function is a big ask. Sounds like you've got a great sense of humour, so keep laughing. Sending you a big cuddle, Trace ????

  • Haha totally normal:):) I used to forget to turn the hot plates off, forget to turn the iron off,put something away and then forget IMMEDIATELY where I had put it.I am 2 years past diagnosis and pretty much normal again in the memory department.Just try to accept it for what it is:):) You will get over it .Cheers Robyn xox
