I am dreading the next phase of my treatment so much! My 75yo mother already has osteoporosis.

I forgot to mention after 12mths on Femara had to have a bone infusion, as it affected my bones. Now have to have a bone infusion every 12mths.
Good luck.

I started Femara beginning of Oct 2012 after being taken off Tamoxifen because they think it assisted in forming a clot resulting in a stroke. When I went for a check up with surgeon the other week he asked how the side effects from the Femara were & I said terrible.....he said they usually subside after about three months !!!! WTF......like to know who told him that..
I suggested he might like to do the math !

- nixbixMemberHi lovely ladies, I've been on Femara for 12 months. I was on Tamoxifen for a few months & then decided that l wanted my ovaries out so had to change for that reason. I too have really bad joints with Femara which frankly I'm over! I stuck it through because l had read that it subsides around the 18 mth mark but l can't wait to "see" if it does. I saw my onc on Wednesday & told her l'm over it! So we're trying Aromasin which is a sister drug. I told her l didn't want to compromise my health though and she said I wouldn't! I'll keep you in the loop! I must say that l did have other side effects at the start but they have subsided significantly! I now sleep better, especially after light gym exercise, and the hot flushes are much milder. I didn't give in too easily though. Tried fish oils, krill oil, Panadol osteo as a last resort but with no help so there's only so much one can take. I want a better quality of life which we all deserve after such a hard time. Best wishes to you all. Niki

Thanks for the good news Debbie haha. I am quite hesitant about going on Femara because of the side effects. But the alternative isn't too hot either! I used to be so fit and active before my diagnosis, I dread being so 'disabled' compared to before. I'm 45 and some days I feel 65!
Take care

Hi Helen, I had a hysterectomy as a precortion as my cancer was Oestrogen+ . Progesterone + and Her 2 neg.
Menopause, hot flushes, sweats, and trouble sleeping.
Side affects from Femarra for me were pimples for 6mths then went away. I get headaches, really bad joint pains. Sometimes find it hard to walk late in the evening and first hr of the day. The bottom of my feet so painfull. My hands are so sore. Tired all the time, and have anxiety . I have been on them since 2011 and just hope it will improve.
Take care Debbie

Thanks DebbieJ, I thought that may be the case.
How have you been going on Femara? I am having my ovaries out next month because I can't take Tamoxifen because of a blood clotting disorder. Yay instant menopause ...
