Letrozole and Blood Pressure

Just wondering if anyone has had low blood pressure while on Letrozole.  Googling brings up high blood pressure but nothing else.  I always read slightly low but when I tested it the other day (just because) it came up very low - still in the okay range but only just.  I was okay all through chemo with just a few readings of note but nowhere near as much as I'm getting now.  Pulse rate seems to be okay.  There's nothing else going on that I can think of to explain it so wondering if Letrozole may be causing it.  Obviously, it would be a convenient scapegoat!

  • I would say keep an eye on it. Perhaps sone regular readings for a while. Were you dehydrated? That can result in a low reading on the day.
I normally have low blood pressure but it got very low on herceptin and chemo. If it was hot weather I would get faint quite a bit and I had some vertigo also..which was blood pressure in inner ear related.
Mine was caused by my heart efficiency reduction due to treatment. So yes...if it continues to be very low...have the workup and ensure no issues.
  • Low blood pressure can result in fainting. Which can be a problem depending on where you are and what you are doing!
  • Mine's always been on the low side but down to 93 was just a bit too scary for me.
  • Low bp is a good thing. My doc said it means I will live a long time. I have always  had low bp but not too low. My hubby gets a bit too low which interferes with driving so he takes nodoze while driving. Seems to do the trick.
  • @Sister In the meantime try adding a bit more salt to your diet. Both my oncologist and anaesthesiologist suggested I do this. Have salted nuts instead of umsalted, that kind of thing.
  • I'm monitoring it at the moment @kmakm - it's gone back up to 98 yesterday which is still low but not as scary.  If it drops down again I will see the GP, otherwise I'm going to the onc in a couple of weeks and will bring it up then.  I have increased my water intake during the day and possibly that has helped.
  • Interesting @Sister. As you know I was dogged by low bp all through active treatment. Letrozole hasn't made a difference. My heart beat was always slow but I think it's slower now. Who knows? Perhaps check with your GP to be on the safe side. K xox
  • Mine got down to 93 over 59 the other day and is sort of hovering there.  It usually hangs around 110-115 for the systolic (not sure about the diastolic).
  • Hi @Sister
Usually my blood pressure is around the 120 over 60 mark (except of course when i go to the gp!) But there have been times when it has dropped to 96 over 60 odd for no apparent reason and it's a really weird feeling too. Pulse rate is normal. I see my onco next Monday so I'll get her opinion on it.
