LAST CHEMO

Last Chemo coming up on 22/03, I know I should feel happy about that but cant help feeling nervous instead.

I have coped well with relatively no side effects, lucky for me.

Having Chemo every 3 weeks means I'm doing something to kill the cancer, so where does no more Chemo leave me??

Mixed emotions big time!!!

  • Hey Lyn,

I was in my favorite coffee shop the other day where hey all know me and they said the same thing " how good I looked" I laughed.... looks aint everything lol, they mean well and its lovely they care...sometimes you get over putting on the brave face hey, oh the rollercoaster of emotions.

    lots of hugs to all.

    Cheer Jen ?? ?? ?? xx

  • Hi Cate. The end of treatment can be a time of mixed emotions. For me, it wasn't the end of chemo. That was kind of exciting, as it meant moving on to my next phase, surgery, then radiotherapy. I finished all that six weeks ago, and still trying to work out how I feel.

One thing I do know.... I'm sick of people telling me how " well" I look!!! Sure, I'm feeling a lot better, and I know they're trying to say the right things but sometimes it just feels wrong.

The routine of treatment can be so reassuring. I just keep reminding myself that I have done, and continue to do, all that I can to ensure bc doesn't come back.

    Take care, Lyn

  • Well done Cate! My last chemo is on the 18th. It never seems to get any easier does it? Although that's my last actual dose, I am fully aware its not quite the time to trip the light fantastic yet. I have to get over that dose and in actual fact come to terms with the whole 6 months of nightmare.

I think the next step after that, killing the cancer will be hormone therapy which will starve any remaining half formed cells from getting any food in the way of hormones from us. Still proactive in keeping cancer away and hopefully we will get a bit more pep about us as we carry on.

  • Hi Cate,

I too have finished my chemo just recently and have just started radiation. I understand how you feel, I think it is the fact that our lives for such a long time become very regimented with chemo, doc appointments, bloods and onco's that when it all slows down we get a bit lost. So don't worry I am sure we all feel like that, just another side effect of bc hey, so chin up we are always here ?

    Cheers Jen ?? ?? ?? xx

  • Hi Cate

It's great that you have had not too bad a time with Chemo. I think a lot of us have that 'what now?' feeling at the end of treatment.

It helped me to think about the things I could do to stay well now that the doctors had done their bit.Looking after your general health is a great start. So I try to eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise.

Exercise is one of those things that research has shown can make a difference to your chance of staying cancer free.

Then you can make sure that you keep up your scheduled check-ups with your doctors too and follow any of their recommendations.

It does get easier to feel better about things as time passes. I am over 2 years from the end of treatment and making the most of being well. Hope the last chemo goes well. Take care. Deanne xxx

  • Hi Cate - it is a huge all consuming treatment path that you find yourself on.  Good to read that you have had minimal effect, that is great.

Keep up the good work and take a moment to feel pleased with yourself that you are conquering BC.

Good luck with the balance of your treatment and take care
