It's been over 2 years since mastectomy of my breast and now I am having the other one removed too. I came to the realization that I can go and have all the scans in the world but they can't stop cancer. If a cancer is found no matter how small I will still need a mastectomy and chemo again. Not worth it I decided.I am getting a recon early next year (I hope) and am hopeful the results will be decent, but I know I will never have breasts again after October. I am glad to come back to this site and feel I am no where near alone in this thing which has been the foremost issue in my life since 2010. I am glad there is a special place for us younger gals as we have similar issues going on.

  • im more nervous this time than any other time ive had surgery.

I think Im more anxious about the results not the surgery itself. I hate staying in hospital so I hope it wont be for long.

Im going public too... i have had everything public and cant fault the system at all..

Im not gonna bother doing recon Ive already done it once and now they have to destroy it so Im not eggar to go thru the pain etc again. I can have it done at a later stage if i feel different.

My surgery is the 1st of October.

They dont do recon until 6-12 months after mastectomies - depending on hospital waiting times and how ur healing. So you can plan some stuff around knowing that atleast.

  • Are you very nervous? I try very hard to remember it won't be forever, and I can have a recon (I am booked in for next year but don't know when which sucks) and that it's so much better than being told those awful words again. (you know the ones). I am going through the public system with a wonderful surgeon who my GP sent me to right at the start. He did a fantastic job the first time so I feel I'm in good hands. But get stop recalling alot of things I had forgotten like the tubes, having to sleep sitting up for a few weeks and how your chest is pulles forward and you walk around like a hunchback for a bit. But I had a good experience at the hospital last time I live in a semi-rural place and I work ten minutes from the hospital and it's all close by. Are you considering a recon I am doing that through public too, it will cost nothing. I put off going to see about recon for ages becouse we were working out the cost issues, when I thought I had to do it privately. Talk soon good luck. What date is yours mines the 3rd.
