Question

I was 30 when I was diagnosed with stage 1 BC in 2010. It was a triple negative cancer. I had my left breast removed and a full auxillary clearance. I did 6 rounds of chemo&nbsp;but no radio.
It is now 2 years on and I am having the remaining breast removed as my surgeon believes that although I didn't test postitive to a known gene fault that I still probably have one and he has urged my that my safest option was prophylactic mastectomy. This is based on the young age and some family history.&nbsp;i will then undergo recon in the public system in 2013. I have been told to continue to have genetic testing done every 2 years as technology advances and more gene faults are identified.
He has asked me to think about having my ovaries out too this would be fine but I worry about the hormonal and physical side effects pros and cons but I do not want to worry about having cancer lurking down there.

I can be strong for myself, but it always makes me sad when someone as young as you has had &nbsp;to face all this.&nbsp; I am so glad you have had 2 years with no problems since 2010.&nbsp;
Like you, I was advised to have a prophylactic mastectomy, so had bilateral surgery in April.&nbsp; (Also triple negative and a family history.) I came through the surgery really well, also the chemo, and currently I am halfway through radiotherapy - No. 16 today.&nbsp; Next month I will be having a hysterectomy as a precaution, so our stories are similar.
I am relieved that the doctors have pulled out all the stops to blitz any cells that might be lurking - for me, the peace of mind overshadows everything else.&nbsp; You will decide what is best for you, and I send you a big hug.&nbsp; Keep posting and let us know what you decide.&nbsp;&nbsp; Michelle x

I too in 2010 at teh age of 32 found out I had breast cancer - they tried to to a lumpectomy on my left but the lump was to big. So I opted to have both off as I did not want to have to deal with this again and a strong family history as well. I am still waiting to have my tissue expander put back in to try again for re construction.
I as well had gene testing which showed nothing and hte lady feels there is something but they just dont have the test yet to find it.
They only suggested me having ovaries etc done if I had a postive gene test come back.
