I was 30 when I was diagnosed with stage 1 BC in 2010. It was a triple negative cancer. I had my left breast removed and a full auxillary clearance. I did 6 rounds of chemo but no radio.
It is now 2 years on and I am having the remaining breast removed as my surgeon believes that although I didn't test postitive to a known gene fault that I still probably have one and he has urged my that my safest option was prophylactic mastectomy. This is based on the young age and some family history. i will then undergo recon in the public system in 2013. I have been told to continue to have genetic testing done every 2 years as technology advances and more gene faults are identified.
He has asked me to think about having my ovaries out too this would be fine but I worry about the hormonal and physical side effects pros and cons but I do not want to worry about having cancer lurking down there.
