Kids

Hi everyone first of all I want to say a big thank you to you all for responding to my previous question.  I hope you know just how special you all are and how you have made a positive impact to my journey thus far. But i have another question.  This time it's about chemo. And my immune system. I have a 5year old girl and a 3 year old boy starting school and kinda next year and I'm so afraid of catching somthing from them during my treatment.  I can't imagine not beeing able to cuddle my baby's it brakes my heart thinking about it. Dose any one have any experience of beeing on chemo with little kids? Ps. I have stage 1 TNBC
Cheers

  • Your Onc and the Onc nurses will be able to advise you when your cells are most susceptible (often it is about 4-5 days after the infusion.)

Definitely join the young women's group - and also the TNBC group too - where you can chat in total privacy xxx

take care & all the best xx
  • Hi @riss81
So sorry for your diagnosis .
I am an old chook compared to you (65 - 62 at diagnosis) and don’t have kids but found telling my family really tough - especially my hubby .
With chemo it seems really variable - some people sail through it and others really suffer with side effects.
The important thing is to let the medical team know as they can see if they can alleviate any side effects.
Also if you do suffer side effects take any help offered.
I it might  be worth you joining the private group on here for young people with breast cancer - just call the hotline if you need help with that.
I do recall reading one lady set up a group of friends and family to provide practical assistance ( shopping/ childcare/ cooking etc) via an app .
    Take care.🌺
  • I’m afraid I don’t have experience with young children, but I did work full time through chemo (six months) in an office and with events (large crowds). Not so much as a sniffle. Your immune system may be affected but maybe not as much as you might fear. Best wishes.
