Ki 67's Test

Hi , I am just wondering if anyone has received this test as a normal after ops , chemo and radiation . TIA

  • Hi Kathy. My surgeon asked for the Ki67 to be done from my initial core biopsy specimen. This then decided the order of my treatment. It was 35%, so I had chemo 1st, then surgery. The Ki67 on the surgical specimen was down to 5-10%.

It was a good thing that it had reduced. Had they done it on any earlier pathology, for comparison?

    Take care, Lyn

  • It was ordered for me after my initial biopsy showed there would be a need for it i.e. they did the Ki67 test on the tissue they extracted from my lumpectomy. This meant I had to wait 2 weeks before my final pathology results before they could determine what treatment I would get i.e. chemo. The reason for the delay is that they have to freeze the tissue sample which takes a few days. I have to admit the waiting really did my head in. Hope you get your results soon.

  • Thanks Nadine, mine was not done in initial path tests, this is now delaying my treatment options / decision and I am quite annoyed that a test that can provide you with this information is not an automatic request from Dr's / Surgeons ??

  • Hi. I had this test when my initial core needle biopsy showed I had HER2 positive breast cancer. My Ki67 was 70% which indicated that my cancer was super aggressive (anything over 20% is considered a fast growing cancer) making it a grade 3 cancer.
