My portacath has made the whole chemo experience this time much more bearable. Unfortunately, there can be issues with them, mine won't work to draw blood. It has probably got a bit of a protein sheath on it which is not uncommon. It's OK for the chemo though so I'll suffer through the occasional blood test for the next couple of months rather than getting it replaced (probably clog up again, I'm the queen of scars and adhesions)
Ask your oncologist if you want to talk to a surgeon about getting one installed. I'd recommend it, despite the few problems I've had.
