I've got an appointment to see an oncologist Tuesday
Hi Ladies,
Everything is happening so fast now, I'm not even 2 weeks post surgery and I have an appointment to see a Medical Oncologist on the 11/8 it's all happening so fast now I don't know what to think - all I feel is numb and scared, I just read this story in the NT News about a 24 year old lady with a 9 year old who has 1 week to live now she has bone cancer she's achieved almost everything on her bucket list it breaks your heart to know her daughter isn't going to have her mother while she's growing into womanhood.
I'm so grateful I caught my bc early but what do I have in store for me, I suppose my oncologist will have my anc results when I see him on Tuesday afternoon I've been told that they are very blunt I'm just a little scared right now but I have wonderful Breast Care Nurses who are allways there for me I guess the main thing is I haven't been told what stage my cancer is, I know there were 2 tumors both Hormone receptor +, grade 2 tumors and also 1 3.5cm tumor DCIS on the verge of being cancerous and 1 lymph node involved but the other nodes I don't know yet.
I'm trying to be brave but at night when I'm alone I get scared, I don't know what I would do without this network at least I can talk to you guys and know that you know how I'm feeling.
Sending lots of cuddles.

Hi Kezzab,
Thanks for your kind words I'm sure that everything will be fine and I intend to kick cancers ass as it has no idea who it's messing with but the waiting is the worst of it, I have great support and that's half the battle I'm sure I'll find out all my results tomorrow and I allready have a nice beanie and a beret but I want more colourful ones the ones I ordered are black so I think I'll order some more colourful ones, I'm getting my hair cut short this weekend I hope, I'm thinking of setting myself some goals especially something special for my daughters 10th birthday in febuary, keeping positive and thinking of everything I still have to achieve with my husband and daughter.
Sending you big hugs

Anita,
Yes its a scary ride all I can say is don't let the cancer define who you are. Sounds like you have awesome support network, great hubby, children and breast cancer care nurse hat trick sweet.
Let them take the information in for you. You will start asking questions and understanding more in your own time, It took 5 times and 3 different people to explain to me what triple negative breast cancer means but eventually got it. I have no hormone receptors and was aggressive Grade 3 also in the node. It messed with the wrong chick as I kicked its butt as a single mum with 2 children aged 14 & 11, my 8 year partner ran away.
The waiting game is hard and the unknown is hard but my big advice is wake up in the morning and enjoy each and every moment as the Drs and nurses will control the big C theres not a thing we can do other than love and live life and it most definitely changes your views on allot of things. Love and light Anita :) still hard yes but set yourself goals and do that list we all had that says one day ill do that :)

Hi Tracey,
My husbands fantastic too he allways takes me to this really nice coffee shop at the hospital and gets me a nice cappacino and a piece of mud cake, it's nice having someone make you feel special especially when what's happening is beyond their control my husband and I have been married for 18 years in January that's a long time and we have our precious little girl to think about. Take care. Anitaxxx

Hi Tracey,
I don't have to travel far for treatment about 20 minutes from home by car, It's true it must be an awful job being an oncologist having to deal with terrible stuff, I've heard pretty good things about the oncologist I'm going to see on Tuesday, did you have to travel far when you were having treatment I think it makes things easier when you don't have to travel too far.

My Oncologist just told me the truth, and I'd rather that than be mucked about. They must have a difficult job with having to treat so many sick people. I found mine easy to talk with, just don't expect a counsellor as that's not what they are there for. I hope that your appointment goes well. Do you have to travel far for treatme ?

Hi Tracey,
Is it true that they are really blunt when giving you the option of your chances with or without chemo not that even considering not having chemo because I'm going to have chemo no matter what I'm just curious that's all. The fear gets to me sometimes but if the oncology nurses are as fantastic as my breast care nurses then I'm really lucky I've heard the oncology nurses are very nice in Darwin so that's half the battle I suppose, my husband has been beside me every step of the way and has been to every appointment. It's going to be a long journey but one that I intend to win. Sending you heaps of cuddles Anitaxx

Hi Hazel,
I guess it's the fear of the unknown but I know I can do it and I will my mind will be a little more at ease once I know what lies ahead, I know it will be a long journey but I'm young and healthy and I have a family to think about my husband and daughter need me and my friends have been so supportive and still are and without this network I would have gone crazy by now, sending you hugs.

Hi Sonya,
I really have been in a bur I think not actually comprehending or wanting to accept that I have Cancer it's allways that's not going to happen to me and then it does and you go into denial mode and sort of automatic pilot it didn't actually hit me till I was in hospital last week after my Auxillary Node Clearance and then it hit me like a ton of bricks and yes it is really scary stuff especially when you have a 9 and 1/2 year old daughter who is depending on you and a loving husband who would do anything for you and I for him. I am just so grateful that I have a fantastic surgeon who has gone that extra mile for me as he's been my surgeon since 2009, Good Luck with your appointment on Wednesday my thoughts and positive vibes are with you. Lots of cyber hugs Anitaxx

Hi Anita, you'll find the oncology nursing staff lovely and they explain what to expect really well. My oncologist told me exactly what my odds of recurrence were,(50/50)and how my odds would be reduced by treatment(30 percent). He gave me info about side effects and gave me advice and medications to manage my side effects. Good luck for Tuesday, take a notepad with you to your appointment with all your questions. Take a support person with you too. It is a roller coaster ride and like walking through a fog. Sending you a cuddle, Trace ??????
