Its a long process isn't it?

Hi All!

Just thought I'd let all you lovely ladies know its been a week since that unexpected readmission to hospital to drain that blood clot from the reconstructed left breast.

I saw my plastic surgeon last Tuesday and he was very happy with the result and that everything is going along nicely.

I am back at home recovering slowly, but surely. I think one of the hardest things for me is realising that recovery is a LONG process and it wont just "happen" overnight or even in a couple of weeks. I have a nurse that comes to my home every 4 days or so to redress the abdominal wound. One of the best things I heard was my breast surgeon telling me that I dont need any more treatment (ie no cancer)!

Thanks again for all your help and advice and eventhough I dont have to have any more treatment, I understand that not just recovery is a long process, but I have a higher chance of the cancer coming back, so I will be online for a long time yet!! lol.

Cheers from Adelaide.

  • Hi Karen,

Thanks for your reply! That was one of things I had to get my head around, especially in the hospital and on arrival at home, was that the "recovery period" was going to be a long one! LOL.

The nurse told me today that my reconstruction was well done and that my abdominal wound was going along very well - in fact i wont need as much bandaging around the sides as much from now on. I will still need the acticoat bandage on the centre bit though.

All going along well.  All I need now is a job!! (for financial reasons as well as for my own self esteem).  Where abouts do you live? I live in Hackham West, which is a suburb of Adelaide.

  • Hi Rachel

that's wonderful that your treatment is completed now. Me too! It's such a good feeling. The oncologist was telling me yesterday that it will likely be 12 months before I start to feel more my old self. It really is such a long process and we still have a bit to go with working out our new normal. Good luck with it all and stay well. Karen xox
