Had a check up with the oncologist today and apparantly last round my blood count went REALLY low - so the day after my chemo this round I have to give myself an injection - something about neutrophils. has anyone else had to do this. I think the plan is to do this after each chemo. I think it will be hard to do this myself - hate needles at the best of times.
Guess it explains why I was so exhausted after the chemo.

I tracked down a free community nurse who came to my house to help me with my second one, as I struggled the first time. The nurses were awesome, and rang me consistently or, visited, great to have some one come to your home!
I know the head shave is very daunting but I brought myself some amazing wigs 1 I paid a lot of money for & I also had a field day down to paddys market & brought 2 there & people commented on the cheaper ones said they were fantastic!!. So maybe a day out with your girlfreinds to Paddys ;-)). You tube have some amazing videos on how to tie scarves & wear beanies I even cut an old tshirt up to make a great head wrap (YouTube). xxx
I am worried of course - but have even started my countdown. 1/4 of the way through on monday, then into round 2. thanks for your thoughts. I have had my head shaved yesterday (number 2 then clippers) as my hair was going everywhere. I have to get used to my new look but have a beanie on to keep my head warm!!

Thanks all - and yes I am lucky to have found this site early on and love the support and information from all of you. It really helps. I have booked into my GP for the first injection and I need a couple of referrals anyway. I think for all the injections I will do this because as you say the GP will want to keep an eye on me and it takes one more worry away. I have 3 more doses so a few trips to my Gp will be ok.

It is a tough path we walk. but its nice to know we don't walk it completely alone. I also had my head shaved yesterday as my hair was starting to fall out quickly. getting used to my new look and wearing a beanie to keep my head warm

Hi Marg the same thing happened to me.I also had a stint in hopsital because of very low neurofils they were way down a week on the super juice & I was great again. I also had to have an injection after each chemo which I could have given myself (even though I hate needles too!!) the needle isn't like a propper needle it's just sort of pushing a pen against your stomach. I have the sweetest GP & he insisted on doing it so he could just "keep an eye on things". I finished my chemo in June last year & just finished my herceptin in March looking forward to getting my life back on track. This sight is wonderful that you can get lots of info from ladies that have also experienced what your going through & really care,so you don't feel so much alone. I only wished I had found it a little earlier on in the path I walked also. Good luck & lots of healing vibes coming your way . Cheers Kek xxx

Good luck for number 2 I have just done no 4 and I don't think 3&4 is as bad as 1&2 maybe the body and mind just get used to it. I started Herceptin on No 2 and was sacred shitless (sorry for the french) and I did find No 2 was very sensitive on the scaple. Everything passes and before you know it you will be counting down just like me. Healing Hugs Sarah

thanks for all your wonderful advice and information. I have booked into my GP next wednesday so that they can show me for this first one. and if I think I am too wussy to do it I will just book in with the GP each time. will see how it goes. Hope it does help me feel better as well as not being so prone to infection. dose 2 on tuesday.
